13" MacBook Pro 2018 - Error 12 in Bootcamp

Hi!

First of all, my Hardware:
13" MacBook Pro 2018 i5/16/512
Sonnet Breakaway Box 550
Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB
Samsung C24FG73

Just to make sure everybody knows my setup Smile
As far as I have understood, the process of solving Error 12 differs from Mac to Mac.

I had some issues setting up Bootcamp on my Mac, including accidentally wiping the whole SSD and had to load a Time Machine Backup, which took a couple of hours. Therefore I am a little bit more careful before I would try to solve by myself.

Can anyone give me a hint how to get rid of Error 12 under Bootcamp? Should I deactivate something in the system control panel of Windows?

Thank you!

Hey!

When the eGPU is connected directly from the start, no error 12 occurs, which is great. One issue remains:

the integrated Display is showing the windows logo all the time. I already tried to switch to Win + P to the second screen only, but it did not work out. The external display (which is the second screen) turns then off too. When using the MacBook in clamshell mode, I am not 100% sure if the integrated display is really off 😁🙈.

Can someone confirm it’s off? Or can I try something else?

Thanks!

Not sure if that keyboard short cut is doing the same thing but I turn off my internal display in settings. There’s a “display on only x” setting (which sounds similar to what you are doing) which I select to display only on second. I now keep my MacBook closed in clamshell mode at all times in both OS.

A disabled iGPU when there's a connected AMD eGPU at boot is expected for Boot Camp. Without a working iGPU the internal display would be stuck at the Windows logo (booting stage when AMD eGPU takes over). I recommend using either @goalque's automate-eGPU EFI, apple_set_os.efi, or rEFInd to keep the iGPU activated.

Sorry if my questions sound dumb, I am pretty new to eGPUs and Mac itself:

My current solution works, although it is not perfect, correct?

The optimum solution would be using rEFInd, do I understand this correctly?
Can you still set macOS for autoboot? I don't want to see the OS option screen on every boot up.
Then I would go for it on the long run, as soon as I figure out how to install everything Smile

I´ve used  @goalque's  automate-eGPU EFI  mod, as I wanted to change as less as possible on my MacBook.

What should I say... It now works perfect Smile
Thanks to everyone for your support!

Quick question
my gaming box fires up in windows but I get the code 12 error.
The AORUS engine works and let’s me make changes however when trying to check for updated drivers it fails.
Radeon settings also opens but when trying to go in It says that it does not find the device.

The only devices showing errors are the rx580
a mass storage controller on pci bus 2 with code 28
an unknown service on pci Express root complex also code 28
When i check the Thunderbolt tab in device manager it shows no drivers, and option to update drivers. Is this something I should do?
windows version 1803 on ext ssd
