[Solved] 2019 13" MacBook Pro eGPU help
I got a 2019 MBP 13inch base model working with a razer x and 1080ti. It's connected to and ultrawide 3440x1440 display.
The graphics card is recognized and working in bootcamp. My issue is the driver is from 2018, when I go to Nvidia to update the driver I get an error every time. I already tried using DDU to uninstall Nvidia drivers and that does not work as well.
Anyone have insight on this?
@xsagadude so what are you actually trying to achieve? You have a working set up but with old drivers and you want the latest?
What happens when DDU "doesn't work very well"? I've never used it in safe mode but thats the recommendation, then download and instal latest drivers.
I figured having the latest driver would enhance performance.
What I meant was it does not work at all. I uninstall Nvidia drivers, my screen goes black and I have to start all over to get the Macbook to recognize the egpu again.
Ahhh ok.. wild guess... your iGPU isn't active so thats why your screen is going blank.
Boot without the eGPU plugged in, and then run DDU, that will remove the drivers without the black screen (hopefully).
Once the drivers are gone you can download the latest, and hopefully get that performance boost!
It is true in AMD-land. Most improvements are targeted to new game titles, but there have been overall performance increases for some GPUs after driver updates (ex. 19.5.1 for Radeon VII - 16% claimed perf uplift).
