=========================UPDATE=====================

ITS WORKING

Magic formula = Win10 1903 (.295)+ latest bootcampdrivers.com drivers + bootx64.efi port dance

=====================================================

I have been unable to get my Vega 64 up and running in bootcamp after trying for several hours.

I am getting the dreaded "error code 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use)"

Here here is a little more info about my setup:

2019 Macbook Pro 16"  i9 upper tier base model

Radeon Vega RX 64 8GB

Razer Core X

Windows 1903

PCIE x16 and x8 disabled in device manager. (Left two thunderbolt 3 ports + 5500m)

Latest bootcampdriver.com drivers installed

Does anyone have the 2019 Macbook Pro 16" + Radeon Vega RX 64 eGPU combo working in bootcamp?

I am really hoping this gets answered! I JUST ordered my 16" Macbook Pro with 8gb 5500m (which maybe thats all the graphics card I need to play red dead?) And I have a Breakaway Box with an 8GB RX 580 in it that I have had connected for my 2016 Macbook Pro, and have failed at getting going in Bootcamp.

Noah, how good is the 5500m in your mac on bootcamp?  8GB is great and from what I can understand its about the 'same' as the card in the xbox one x, which is no slouch!  But if anyone has booted Red Dead Redemption 2 with ultra settings, Im quite sure theres no mobile card that exists yet that can yield what I want.

@nicholas_james_johnson

Use the internal 8gb 5500m for gaming.

An RX580 eGPU won’t be any faster. Don’t bother.

I have no problems with my 16" because I went with Nvidia. I think the tricks to make dual AMD work have not been successfully ported to the 16" yet.

@mini-i5 i followed the 5700xt + 16" guide exactly when setting up but to no avail.

I think the vega 64 may require more resources than the 5700xt.

 I'm not too familiar with the differences between the two cards, does that seem like a reasonable assumption to you?

@coldfuser do you know what cards are nvidia cards are supported? I hear they are pretty much plug and play is that right?  I may pick one up just to game in win10.

@nicholas_james_johnson I didn't test out the 5500m in bootcamp much but I can confirm that it was functioning properly. It is probably  comparable to a egpu rx 580.

Thank you all!

I'd look at the builds on this forum. There's a curated article, but the reviews are much more complete https://egpu.io/boot-camp-egpu-setup-guide/#amd-nv . eGPU is still very much a pain in many ways. I've had more crashes using an eGPU in the last 2 months than 7+ years of using a MacBook Pro.

Yes, the Vega 64 is resource heavy. Which manufacturer and model is the card?

Does it have a 2-position BIOS switch?

@mini-i5 tried the bios switch still getting code 12!

@itsage you have been seemingly the only one to get non 5700 Radeon cards working in windows with the 16 inch macbook pro.

Do you happen to have access to a Vega 64? I would love to see if you could get it up and running with your setup.

My problem is either with my Vega 64 or my Razer Core X. I am on 1903 .295 with latest bootcamdriver.com drivers installed.

Got it up and running!

The magic formula is 1903 (.295)+ latest bootcampdrivers.com drivers + bootx64.efi port dance

Heaven Benchmark Extreme Preset Results:

Heaven Benchmark Basic Preset Results:

FPS: 261.4, Score: 6583, Min FPS: 9.7, Max FPS: 435.7

Let me know if there are any benchmarks you would like run! I may make a build guide this weekend if I have time.
