AKiTiO Node Titan and Bootcamp - Not Supported - is this a common problem/response?

Greeting everyone,

I stumbled across this site and forum as part of my travels..  I have been away from PC gaming for 11 years, after starting a family and career there just wasn't time to continue..  I also switched to Mac which has been great but the game selection is extremely limited.

Fast forward to the present, with the pandemic I'm finding myself with some free time and my kids are getting older, so I'd like to get back to PC gaming.

I started slowly acquiring a gaming mouse and a new headset.. I then got BootCamp and Windows up and running, but then I made a leap (perhaps prematurely) and made a big purchase - Node Titan eGPU Enclosure with Radeon RX 5700 XT GPU Bundle from OWC.  I saw that it worked on Windows and OSX so I assumed BootCamp wasn't an issue.

The setup on OSX was a breeze and it works well, however on Windows the eGPU would not work.  When I try to PnP I get the Code 12 (device cannot find enough resources), and a black screen if I just try to boot Windows with only the eGPU (I've tried different Thunderbolts which as suggested).  I recently asked OWC for help and they pointed me to AKiTiO Support's site which states bootcamp is not supported not he Node Titan.

So my first question, is this normal response? Do other vendors make this statement yet the community finds a way forward?  I am just incredibly stupid and am now screwed.. ?

So I did read the "Read this before asking for help". Sadly I did not know about this site before I purchased (as a Mac user I'm used to things just working) and did not check the buyers guide which may have helped me avoid this problem. In "Builds Section"  I found someone who has the same 2018 Mac Mini and the same AKiTiO Node Titan Radeon RX XT GPU Bundle. He was able to get it working on OSX just as I have and mentioned he would try BootCamp and Windows.. I reached out to him to see what kind or progress he made.  Also I did try the vendor which is the link above indicating that it not supported.

I see the Code 12 is a common error and others have overcome it..  The world is an ugly place right now, and I see there are some very knowledgeable people here so I'm hoping you can help me... I'd like to get back to gaming with my friends.

My full specs are in my signature.. I’m happy to dig in a troubleshoot, test and read - however before doing so I want to understand the impact of Akitio saying it’s not supported.

Official statements from every vendor including Apple will be the same. They are not providing support for eGPU in Boot Camp. That does not mean it won't work. It means the setup procedure is not easy/consistent depending hardware components and software versions. Take a look at our build guides for instructions in Boot Camp.

@mini-i5, very impressive thank you for sharing.. Our stories are very much he same, but you have a much deeper knowledge and understanding of this than I do.. I appreciate you sharing how you were able to get this working on 2004.   I'll have to dig and see if I can follow what you did..
