Suffering the fate of early adopters I can't get the RX5700 recognized on my MBP2018 w/RP560X using an Akitio Node and the most recent drivers from Bootcampdrivers.com. Any pointers what I could try to troubleshoot are welcome!

The Akitio Node appears in macOS but no sign of the eGPU there either. An RX580 works with this setup without issues.

In MacOSX there is no support yet, but Bootcamp should work fine with your MBP Model. I have the same and all AMD cards worked the same way, see also in this bootcamp guide for 15-inch MBP

Unless the Bootcamp drivers are not working with the RX5700 eGPU setup that is?

Yes, maybe it's still a grey cat and they don't work. You still can go to run it without Bootcamp drivers and abandon the idea to accelerate the internal display. (Just disable the RP560X and use normal Radeon drivers for your eGPU).

Whelp. Did everything by the book, no luck. Node is detected, but no RX5700. Swapped with my RX580 and instantly I got it detected and it got the yellow-bang as expected. Bootcampdrivers 19.7.2 btw.

The RX5700 has its fan going, and the Radeon letters are shining red but it does not get detected. Thunderbolt Control Software shows the Akitio Node (no matter which port), but that's about it.

The effort seems too Titanic atm. Since I can't test the card otherwise (no separate case/mobo) I might send it back and wait until I hear and read about more successful builds (@fasaso seems he has had some luck).

well, all I can say is exactly how I did it, maybe it'll help.

I first downloaded a fresh installation from Windows (1903) to bootcamp. Then I downloaded the Bootcampdrivers.com drivers and installed them according to the instructions in the corresponding file "Read me". After the restart everything ran slower because the internal graphics card was not recognized. I did not connect the external graphics card until this step. I shut down the mac again and connected the graphics card

(configuration: macbook pro (Thunderbolt) -> Egpu (Thunderbolt) -> RX5700xt (HDMI) -> Monitor (HDMI).

Now you should be able to bootcamp normally. That's all I did. I hope I could help you.

Starting with Radeon Software Adrenalin 19.7.1 version, the RX 5700/XT are supported in Windows. They also work in Boot Camp mode on Mac computers. I’ve tried both and they worked fine [RX 5700 link] [RX 5700 XT link]. The drivers are not optimized for eGPU use and the performance loss through internal display mode is greater than Polaris and Vega.

New RX5700 XT (replacement item) and BOOM. Immediately detected! Bootcampdrivers July2019-V2 driving eGPU and dGPU. Gonna update once I had time to run benchmarks.

Would you be able to benchmark using Unigine Valley?

I followed the instructions for the Bootcamp drivers,  the gpu is detected in Device managed post install but I’m getting nothing out the 5700 xt in my Razer core. Using DisplayPort for reference.

any ideas ?

@james-r10 @graukatze very similar setups to mine, which I got working well yesterday - sleep / wake / reboot with eGPU always plugged in. Most issue free build I've ever done:

Same problem here but with a Vega 56 and the Akitio Node has been upgraded with a 600W power supply. RXs 570/580/590 work perfectly even without C7 point during setup as per instructions in the tutorial. The Vega56 flashes up the external display for a second after initial installation showing the desktop them disappears forever. (drivers from Bootcampdriver - no problems in MacOs).

Is maybe the power supply insufficient? I don’t think. It worked before the most recent Win10 parches although my doubts are on the Vega’s firmware or AMD’s drivers. Willing to buy a 5700XT but... 🙁

@itsage,

I tried today my mbp13, bootcamp w10 1903 .295 that I have been using with the razor x and 5700xt since solving the error 12 with my rx580 gaming box

I booted in to windows then when I connected the gaming box it was immediately recognized and the external screen came to life.

To my surprise for the first time I have seen both screens / both cards the intel gpu and the rx580 working together.

Are the steps that I followed that allowed the system to recognize both cards or the drivers for the 580. Have you heard anybody with the 5700xt to have both screens working on 1903 ?

@tsakal,  Yes Win10 1903 from 18362.30 to .295 has great hot-plug support. When you boot into Windows without the eGPU, Intel iGPU stays working for the internal display. Once you hot-plug the Radeon eGPU this version of Win10 can handle PCIe component memory allocation and allow both iGPU and eGPU working together. If you want to use them together through cold-plug (eGPU connected prior to boot) then you’d need automate-eGPU EFI boot loader.

@itsage,  Thank you for that . So would it work then with the razor x and the 5700xt connected to a 4k monitor?

I mean both screens when hot plugging ?

@itsage,  tried with the razor x and 5700xt plugging it after w10 loaded but the card was not recognized and had error 12. Tried disabling port 9 and trying again after restarting without the egpu plugged in but no luck. When I booted in to w10 wiht the egpu plugged in it works but no internal screen only on external.

@tsakal,  The RX 5700 XT eGPUs seem to produce a lot of inconsistencies in both macOS and Boot Camp. RX 580 and RX Vega eGPUs are a lot more predictable. I have success with the PowerColor Red Devil RX 5700 XT + Mantiz Venus with my 2018 Mac mini [build link] through the use of @aa15032261‘s modified apple_set_os.efi v.05 EFI loader. I was able to drive an ASUS USB-C portable monitor through the iGPU and a 4K monitor through the RX5700 XT DisplayPort. Give it a shot and see if it helps with your setup.
