Anyone upgrade to the official Big Sur today and still have a working bootcamp with eGPU and dGPU MBP?

@ludalex, Wow, thank you!  it actually works.  I'll never touch this build again since it actually works!  Did the remove auto update fix before even connecting the network.  Not ideal we can't update to latest (security) but who cares as it's for gaming anyway.

Had considered I could get another eGPU box with NVIDIA for bootcamp, but may be better to just go gaming PC or PS5 if I really want to do this more than casual.  Life will be differnt in the future with Apple silicon anyway so will see what the plan is.

Also, may curb my plans to buy a 6900 XT sicne I think things are changing.

I've been using the Big Sur beta since version 5 or 6 along with Windows 10 1909 and downgraded pci.sys on my 2018 MPB 15" w/ 5700XT egpu. Recently (I can't remember the beta version that triggered this) I've had to unplug all TB/USB peripherals except the egpu when booting into Windows or it freezes/hangs on the Windows startup screen. Once booted, I can plug them back in one by one.

Seemingly at random I get error 43 on the 5700XT egpu which a restart clears.

It's working for the most part, but definitely annoying having to jump through hoops. Feels like a hackintosh again.

Is it safe to update yet? Will I have to configure anything else?

Cheers!

Dear all,

Up on this topic. I have a MBP2018 13" 4x TB3 ports (so iGPU) working perfectly on Windows 10 (2004) with a Razer CoreX and a Sapphire Nitro+ RX5700XT if plugged in before booting. No hacks with EFI, simply had to downgrade PCI.SYS to get everything working.

Obviously the rule is "its works don't touch it!" but as matter of curiosity has the community a bit more feedback on Big Sur update and how it helps or breaks the ability to use eGPU in a bootcamp configuration.

Have a nice holiday season & stay safe,

Manu

@beslemma, Big Sur, in my experience, did absolutely nothing to bootcamp.  Not sure it would.

@erik_tank, Hey brother. After a few days we talked about this topic sold my MacBook pro 2017 to buy a MacBook Pro 2020 with i5 of 10th generation, I got the version of windows that you indicate. Can you tell me what the next step is?

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Hey, buddy, I hope you're okay. I need help!!

I upgraded to Macos big sur and have had trouble using Windows + egpu.

I downloaded the version of Windows 10 1903 v1 which is the one that everyone tells me but I have no idea how I modify the file "PCI. SYS"

Can you help me?

Well what step are you at and what is happening?  I'm on 1903v1 at .285 winbuild.  With Big Sur updating the boot loader - I'm on 11.0.1 Big Sur and my windows bootup procedure is as follows:

No EFI boot - just standard windows loader - load windows all the way up to my desktop.  Disconnect my thunderbolt cable and wait the full 14-15 seconds for the USB disconnect noise to play (it plays the noise twice, once nearly right away from disconnect and another 15 seconds after unplugging).  AFTER the second USB disconnect noise has chimed, I can plug it back in and my three 4K monitors spring to life.

Edit: I cannot use any drivers other than Red April 2020.  I have tried all other drivers and they ALL used to work fine with Catalina, but whatever firmware updated after Big Sur's install has stopped all other drivers from working properly.  I DID have october or august half-arsed installed, and my monitors would turn on, but in one night of gaming the FPS were stuttering at random times and I BSOD twice.  I restored my winclone image with April 2020 red drivers (all of these I'm talking about are bootcampdrivers.com) and stayed there.  I do have a slight bit of eagerness to get on a later version of windows and drivers - but right now I mostly just play population one in VR every night.  Someday when I have more time I'll want to dive into Star Wars Squadrons which actually warns me when I start it to update to newer drivers.  The FPS in that game stayed solid but would randomly drop and make me sick for seemingly no reason.  When you're in VR, fps drops suck majorly.

The problem was that I installed the version of windows 1903 v2, replace the pci.sys file and when I turned on the windows partition I found the blue screen. That's where I sold my mbp 2017 and next 18th this month I get the mbp 2020 i5 10th generation but I want to do that process before the mbp gets into my hands.

I currently have the versions of Windows 10: 1903 v1, 1903v2 and 2004. Which one do you recommend installing?

If you use 1903 v1 without doing any windows updates, you already have the proper PCI.SYS file.  Don't use windows updates or it breaks by upgrading PCI.SYS.
