Anyone yet tried Flight Simulator 2020 on a Macbook Pro 13?
I'm running it on Win10 Pro Bootcamped MBP 13 mid-2020 with a RX 580 4GB in Mantiz EGPU. In "medium" setting I get around 30 FPS... BUT considerable random stutters in between dropping to 5 FPS without obvious reason. I tried finding out why that happens and it seems it is because of CPU throttling. The cores get up to almost 100C ... that is when they throttle. Is there anything that can be done about this?
@alberto2000, I tried the Alpha on my MacBook Pro 13 (late 2016) with AMD RX 5700XT and "High" settings it was ok! I don't know how many fps was. The GPU temperature was 78-80C.... very high! The CPU was 40% usage.
I will try it again soon.
Hey @jefniro thanks! That is good to hear! What CPU temperatures were you getting? I have highest spec MBP 13 2020 with i7 quad core 2.3ghz but for some reason the CPu gets so damn hot, so that then it throttles, which causes severe stutters periodically, like every 30 seconds. My RX 580 is not getting hot at all though! Staying at 48C all the time and mostly only used ad 99%...
Are you using special drivers?
@alberto2000, I don't know the temperature but it was not so high (the load was 40% ca. as I said). Check the image below, but I wasn't flying in New York...
My CPU is i7 dual core and I have only 8GB RAM (swap file was 24GB). One of my friends bought FS2020 and he confirms that the load is on the GPU not on the CPU.
I use Macs Fan Control for the CPU temperature. Maybe it can help you...
According to Digital Foundry’s video, the RX580 can struggle with some scenes in Flight Simulator, particularly very built up cities, even at Medium (although is fine most of the time).
Worth a quick watch of their video (especially the second half) as it might help in your testing / troubleshooting to know what is considered “normal” behaviour for that card!
Notably, 4GB VRAM and 8GB system RAM is on the low side for this game’s requirements.
