Blank partition screen when trying to use bootcamp with egpu on Big Sur
@durandal09, ahh shit! Okay, well if you find a solution please let me know. I'm not a tech expert but I would love to give it a shot.
I did set my MacBook to factory settings and re-download Catalina and re-installed purge-wrangler (no bootcamp yet). But now when restarting I hear the mac chime and the Razer Core kicks up, but then there is just an illuminated black screen and no login.
If I wait until I get to the login screen or login to the Mac partition and then plug in the egpu, it works fine. So I still can't hold option and access other partitions on my Mac with the egpu plugged in, so kinda the same issue as above.
Do you think this is because I downloaded Big Sur originally?
Absolutely, upgrading to Big Sur also upgrade your Boot EFI Firmware which is not easily downgradeable.
I think this Firmware upgrade is the root of all the problems here.
I usually boot holding Alt key and when I'm on the screen to choose the bootable system between Bootcamp or MacOS, only then I plug the eGPU in.
@durandal09, Gotcha, thanks for all this info! Sorry i'm not very well versed in this. I did get boot camp downloaded with a version of Windows 1903 which I hear is the best version for eGPUs but whenever I plug in my eGPU it still doesn't kick on in Windows. It doesn't seem to recognize it. It did slightly for a second a couple hours ago, but since then I haven't been able to recreate the issue. It also doesn't show in Device Manager.
IDK if you have had that issue either... This also might be related to the upgrade to Big Sur as well.
@, Just solved it using this great tutorial -> including the EFI thumb. Super helpful.
Okay I managed to have a stable output on my external monitor after all, you need to deactivate your facetime camera in addition of the 0x600 reg hack and the DSDT thing.
I can use Windows 10 20H1 with my MacBook Pro in clamshell mode 😀 It’s working without trouble for 30min now I’ll install steam and launch Cyberpunk 2077 to test further the stability.
If it’s all good I Will post the build here.
Edit: Did you managed to get your internal screen working while using the usb key? :O
