@nicholasdc,

If the problem has returned in the slow ring version, I’m not sure how it is fixed.

@mini-i5,  not sure whats the difference between slow and fast as I am not a windows specialist.

But fast works, slow didn't.

@bilal_hammelmann,

You need to enroll in the windows insider program and select fast. I ran all the updates possible.

That's it.

Version 2004 (OS Build 19564.1000)

Once done  I suggest to disable the enrollment and disable all updates until 2040.

Well there is no information in the release notes for that build mentioning the Error 12 fix specifically, so it must have been a side effect from another fix.

@nicholasdc which Mac, eGPU enclosure, GPU, and video drivers are you using? I could potentially test a 2019 MBP 15-inch w/RP560 + Razer Core X + RX 5700 XT this afternoon with this Windows Insider build this afternoon.

@nicholasdc,

Fast and slow are the groupes (rings?) you can select to be in depending on the risk you want to get in testing their betas, that is what I have understood at least.

I'm a Mac OS specialist but not a Windows specialist. I've looked around what is the Windows Insider program and the question is: should (or could) we expect this fix in future Windows official updates?

Thanks

Simon

Once you are enrolled Microsoft lets you download an ISO of the Insider Preview Fast Ring. After that is installed then you should be get the update that was released two days ago and test your eGPU setup.

@nicholasdc,  Thank you for sharing this news. I checked on my 2019 13-in MacBook Pro tonight with the Fast ring Version Win10 2004 (OS Build 19564.1000) and can confirm AMD eGPU worked without error 12 through cold-plug. Hot-plug and timed hot-plug are not working however for internal display acceleration.

@itsage doesn't work on my 16 inch with core chroma. Internal dgpu is error 31, egpu is code 12.

Edit 1: Reinstalling the driver fixed the internal, will try the pci.sys fix for egpu next.

Edit 2: pci.sys fix still works.

@florin_samareanu,  AMD has been working with Microsoft for at least two months to remedy this issue. These latest insider versions are getting better but they are not as good as Win10 1903 (18362.30-.295) that have hot-plug support. I've tried the EFI boot loaders to keep the iGPU activated but the eGPU would either not be detected or experience error 12.

@itsage,

Quick question, I have been running bootcamp with w10 1903 .295 without any issues since I tackled the error 12 by disabling the pcie port 9. I have stopped windows updating but I keep getting the apple bootcamp update screen.

By the way the only issued I see is that some games are unstable with DirectX 12, however, on DirectX 11 I have not had any issues apart from not being able to play at all Forza Motorsport 7.

Should I update it , do you know if it is fixing any issues ?

@tsakal,  I wouldn't update Windows 10 if I was in your shoes. The Apple Software Updates in Windows is safe to run.

@itsage,  Thank you. I wasnt going to risk it. My question was only about the apple software update within windows. I was wondering it was going to trigger any other windows updates.

@bilal_hammelmann,  Download and run DDU to remove all Radeon graphics drivers. You can then download and install the latest Radeon drivers from AMD website.

Of course you can. Just do the pci.sys replacement and error 12 will be gone.

FYI, I installed  an Insider update two days ago (can’t remember build #). External display went back to error 12 as the installer modified display drivers. Had to remove the “new” display drivers with DDU in safe mode and reinstalled them and everything is still working.

While the latest fast ring versions have resolved error 12 on Radeon eGPUs, PCIe component detection and management in Win10 1903 V1 is still better in my observation. 18362.30 to .295 are the only versions I've found to be able to handle Radeon eGPU hot-plug in Bootcamp.

So what exactly is needed to get this working from scratch with 16" macbook pro and iGPU/dGPU? Latest insider -> DDU -> bootcampdrivers -> coldplug and done? That's it? No efi hacks, no port dance?

I tried with just that and still getting error 12. I guess I still need the efi hack, will try and report back.

Nope! Not sure what you guys are doing to get it to work. I tried efi hack (As you can see my intel iGPU is enabled), port dance, bootcampdrivers, etc...

😥

I would ddu the driver you have installed and reinstall the driver from bootcampdrivers. If I'm not mistaking code 31 means the driver signature is invalid.

I have tried DDU then bootcampdrivers multiple of times with no luck still. I just gave up on this whole eGPU with AMD and bootcamp for now. Im happy with 5500m dGPU. This is too much of a pain to maintain and worry about with every single update from both MacOS and Windows. Razer Core X Chroma sucks on MacOS so I ended up returning that too (It's a Razer product, should have known better).

I was thinking after reading so much frustration (and the guide by @itsage):  I still have my KFA2 1060 eGPU laying around. I suppose I am better served by the 1060 than by my RX 5700 XT if I want to play on Bootcamp, ain’t I?

How did you get both igpu and dgpu activated with no yellow bang or errors? I have tried everything and I always get an error 43 on the dgpu. Thank you in advance.

I did follow that guide.. can you confirm you can still activate igpu and dgpu (with no error on both) now without your edpu?

was this possible on current windows release or just fast ring release?

The fast track build 2004 19041 did not fix error 12 for me on a Mac Mini with Razer X Core and Vega 56

EDIT: Error still happening after updating to latest build 19569.1000
