Hello everyone,
I apologize to everyone for my bad English, but I'm Italian.
I'm about to buy an asus vega 64 strix and a razer core x to use an egpu on my imac 5k 2017
I read on the internet that in mojave everything will be quite simple, but in windows there are extra steps that I just do not understand.
At the moment on my mac I have windows 10 pro 1703 (I did not go any further because I read about problems with the egpus with the new updates 1803 etc).
Once I have everything (I'm waiting for the black friday), what should I do?
The internal screen of the mac will not be able to use it anymore?
When the egpu is off the screen will work?
Is there an order with which I have to turn things on?
If I had the error 12 how do I solve it?
Will I have to download the official drivers from the amd website?

iMac 27" 5k 2019 (i9 9900k 3,6ghz, 40gb ram ddr4 2666 mhz, ssd 1tb, dgpu Radeon pro vega 48 8gb), Egpu: Razer Core X with ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 2080 Ti AMP Extreme Core
Osx 10.15.5
Windows 10 pro 2004 - 19041.329 (bootcamp with external ssd 1tb Samsung evo 860)

I followed the guide of this forum and as I expected I'm running into the error 12.
In addition, despite having activated the igpu intel, integrated.bat does not switch the internal display on the igpu.
I tried to disable several PCI lines but the egpu does not work.
My system is imak 5k 2017 dgpu rx 580 8gb, windows 10 pro 1703, razer core x, asus vega 64.
Obviously in mac os the egpu works regularly.
I'm desperate, I'm even thinking of returning the razer and the vega 64 to amazon.
I really do not know what to do.
Please someone who has had experiences help me!

I use the 2017 iMac 5k with RP580 as well.
My eGPU is sonnet, and my GPU is Vega FE/LC, so it might be different than your experience.

With that said, I can use my Vega in Bootcamp by simply disabling the dGPU in the device manager.
I also noticed that Vega works better when I use the TB3 port next to the Ethernet port, rather than the USB ports.

I also use the tb3 near the ethernet port.
What driver do you use? Official amd or bootcamp drivers?

I use the official AMD driver.
I’ve used both the RX and Pro drivers.

You have to edit the installer configuration to make it work, if you want to use the installer.
Otherwise, you can simply install the driver via device manager.

I deactivated the dgpu and the egpu works ... but very bad! The games (at the same resolution) run better on the dgpu!
For example with the egpu the demo of pes 2019 reaches about 20 fps! With stable 60 fps dgpu (always at the same resolution).
If you update the egpu drivers from the Device Manager the computer crashes and I have to restart. And after this I have to reinstall windows. The setup drivers give me error 173.
The bootcamp drivers instead work, but the games always run with low fps! I do not know what to do!

Make sure you run the game on the monitors that are connected to the eGPU.
Once you disable the dGPU, your internal display will not be accelerated.

when I connect the egpu, in the windows settings I choose "show only 2) so as to dissemble the monitor of the mac, but does not solve.
if I wanted to use the setup.exe of the amd drivers, how do I modify it? Do I always run it after using DDU?

I don't use DDU often. I need CCC, and the v18 doesn't see to have it included.
So when I do use DDU, I have to install v17 first, then update it to v18.

To modify the installer config, add the following line to InstallManager.cfg

EnableFalcon=true
