How to set an egpu on imac 5k 2017?
so ... I install windows and all the apple bootcamp drivers (dgpu included), disable dgpu, connect egpu and install the official amd drivers and should it go?
I don’t use the internal display much.
I don’t know if you can activate the iGPU on iMac.
I simply connected 3x 4K displays to the Vega and use them as primary work-space.
I had activated the igpu following a guide, but no use.
I reinstalled windows and installed version 1803, installed the various drivers and connected egpu to the tb3 near the ethernet port. Disable the dgpu, install the official amd drivers for the Vega 64, imposed shows only screen 2 on Windows (screen 2 is my TV). It seems all perfect, but when I launch a game the fps are very low. At this point I throw in the towel! Perhaps the egpu is not for me. I return everything to amazon. Although I'm really sorry. Too bad because in mac os everything works without problems :’(
For iMacs that have non-Intel GPUs, IIRC the iGPUs are not wired to anything/inactive so they cannot be used. iGPU activation hence applies for iMacs that come in iGPU-only configs.
this situation is absurd! The egpu works, I have no error 12 but there is something that prevents you from exploiting it correctly. I can not believe there is not a solution.
I've also set high performance on windows, but it did not help.
Ideally your system would work as follows on internal monitor:
- iMac GPU driving it
- Apps can be made to use eGPU (Windows 1803+)
- If iMac dGPU has been disabled, internal display cannot be used for accelerating anything
You can check the GPU being used in the Task Manager's performance section in Windows. Please provide screenshots of the same.
I have updated my signature sistama.
I use the official drivers amd 18.11.2 and use windows 10
I disabled dgpu and integrated imac monitor.
The egpu is connected in hdmi with my tv.
In windows I set "show only screen 2" (my tv).
Everything works, but the egpu "does not push".
With the same graphic settings the dgpu we do much better.
Have you tried non-game software? Like Heaven to test it out.
Here's what mine looks like while running it.
As you can see on the Display settings, I have 3x 4K display in Eyefinity Config, using the Vega.
