Yes, Apple has been busy fixing AMD eGPU support in the latest Bootcamp / Windows. Glad to hear how easy it was to get 2004 20H2 working on your 2015 MBP. Thanks for letting everyone know.

The 2018 Mac Mini also works very well with AMD eGPUs in the most current Windows 10.

Is there a general consensus with what works best with the Mid 2015 15" with the R9 m370x?

I'm currently trying to run an AMD RX 5700xt with a Rezer Core X on Windows 10 1903 18362.295

  • Genuine Thunderbolt 2 to 3 (Plugged in to thunderbolt closer towards track pad)
  • DDU
  • Bootcap Drivers Win10-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-Apr2020-BootCamp-Red-Edition
  • eGPU-toggler

I still can't get it to work although I was able to get past error 12 with eGPU-toggler

I'm this close to purchasing different hardware as opposed to trying to figure out the software issue as it's been giving me troubles for about three months now

I'm wondering if this has more to do with your particular MBP and .  I've sunk hours into try to get a 5500 Puck to work on a 2020 13" Touch Bar MBP and I've had zero luck.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

According to other members, the 2020 13” MBP has not been fixed by Apple yet to run an AMD eGPU in the latest version of Windows.

Members report success doing so with certain 15” MBP models.

Currently, the 2018/2020 Mac Mini is the easiest Mac to use with an AMD eGPU in the latest Windows version.

Maybe (hopefully) the next Big Sur update - version 11.3 - will include a firmware fix for the 2020 13” MBP.

I just got an nvidia 1080ti to replace my 5700xt card thinking it would be smooth from here on out and I still cant get it to work

At this point I'm legitimately considering replacing my Mid 2015 15" R9 m370x

This laptop seems so problematic and I just can't fathom how you guys are managing to get it to work

17 bootcamp builds with your MBP. Worth spending some time looking what others have done.

I assume you got it to work in macOS?

My setup uses the ADT-R43SG (with RX 580 GPU) connected directly to the NVMe slot on the MBP so it's a different setup compared to yours. I got it to work with macOS, Windows 10 and Linux.

As my 15" 2015 MBP contains the M370x dGPU, I use the apple_set_os EFI script to ensure the iGPU stays on when booting into Windows. I did not get Error 12 as the eGPU is not connected via Thunderbolt 2/3. Not sure if Windows or AMD driver version will help you to resolve the issue but details as below:

I've read through a number of those and have tried a variety of solutions

At some point I'm unsure what errors are exclusive to what issues with varying hardware

As we understand, one solution for a Vega 64 isn't guaranteed to share the same solution with say a 5600 xt

That's what I find particularly difficult although there is a variety of information available, do they apply to my unique situation

@macnexus,

MacOS was straight forward.

Windows is the struggle.

I couldn't get apple_set_os.EFI to work but figured I had already bypassed error 12 so I didn't need to

But then I was left with error 43 with my 5700xt

Now with my 1080ti, I have error 31.

I honestly don't care which gpu I can get to work as long as it functions

The instructions for apple_set_os.EFI can be found in the first post. You should be able to get it to work using a USB stick. I have difficulty installing/updating AMD drivers without apple_set_os.EFI as I will get an error saying no hardware found when the M370x is present in Windows 10. I am not sure what Error 43 is but are you able to install the AMD driver for 5700XT?

@chynk

If you can get apple_set_os.EFI to work, try to uninstall the Bootcamp AMD driver for M370x (since you will no longer need it) and install the latest AMD driver for 5700XT. I will also advise you to avoid the AMD driver from Windows Update as it was giving me problem.

Yeah, installing the AMD drivers for the 5700xt isn't an issue, bootcamp recognizes it fine but I'm faced with error 12, which is remedied with eGPU-toggler.

And to be honest, I was never able to get apple_set_os.EFI to work because I'm quite computer illiterate.

Coding and the like is difficult to decipher and perform when you lack the know how.

I've also disabled automatic updates by windows so that isn't an issue.
