Nvidia eGPU is appearing in "Display Adapters" but cannot use it
I am following itsage's guide - https://egpu.io/forums/builds/2020-13-macbook-pro-10th4cg-rtx-3080-32gbps-tb3-aorus-gaming-box-win10-20h2-itsage/
Here's what I have tried:
- Installing drivers in Safe Mode after DDU
- Windows 20H2, 21H1, Windows 11 21H2
- Disabled Facetime Camera, iGPU, 3 TB Ports, plugged the eGPU to the TB port near the "Tab" key.
Even though it appears in "Display Adapters" as GTX 1060, and GPU-Z shows that it is connected, I can't use it. The Nvidia Control Panel refuses to open, and I can't find any solution in my mind to deal this. Am I doing something wrong here?
@disrel, Are you connecting an external monitor to the eGPU? Since you disabled the iGPU, the eGPU cannot accelerate the internal display.
Yeah I am connecting the external monitor to the eGPU. Bit of an update on this situation, I installed 1903 v1 and figured out that the problem was Error 43.
For some reason the other versions of Windows refused to show this error and portrayed everything as fine. I tried to fix the issue by following some guides on this forum and found out that the PSU was mistiming for some reason. Honestly was too afraid to use some jumper wires to short things so I decided to go with my RX 580 instead.
i decided to use that for the build if I was running 1903 v1 anyways. It’s successful! I even have the iGPU, FaceTime camera enabled, and I can hotplug like 50 to 75 percent of the times.
Fortunately and unfortunately Windows 10 1903 V1 is still the most eGPU-friendly version.
