I had some success with my current rig!

System:

  • 15" MBP 2018 i7-8850H/16GB/512GB/560X Everymac
  • Samsung X5 512GB
  • Apple USB-C Multiport Adapter (A2119) LINK /w Apple 87W MNF82LL/A
  • Dell 3417W Monitor
    • HDMI connected to the USB-C Multiport Adapter
    • Displayport connected to RX5700
  • Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350W
  • MSI RX5700 MechOC
  • Windows 10 - 2004 - 19041.421 (From Insider Preview - Beta Channel)

Step:

  1. Downloaded Win 10 ISO from LINK
  2. Used Bootcamp Assistant to install Windows 10
  3. Install Bootcamp Drivers post-install
  4. Downloaded the latest drivers from:  https://www.bootcampdrivers.com
  5. Updated to the latest stable via Windows updates:  Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
  6. Enrolled in the Windows Insider by using the following directions: https://insider.windows.com/en-us/getting-started
  7. Signed in with my Live Account and enrolled in the Beta Channel
  8. Restarted computer
  9. Plugged in the eGPU
  10. Updated to the latest insider build and downloaded the AMD Driver Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
  11. Installed the new build with the restart
  12. Switched input to Displayport on the RX5700
  13. Downloaded the latest AMD drivers for the RX5700
  14. Extracted it to default location
  15. Opened Device Manager and disabled the Radeon Pro 560X
  16. Right Clicked -> Update Device Software -> Selected the location for the RX5700 downloaded drivers
  17. Test!
  • Was playing COD MW 2019 with the Radeon Pro 560X and got about 40FPS on lowest settings and the resolution set to 720p.
  • Now with the RX5700 I get avg 80fps on Mostly High (Tesselation on Near, and no AA enabled).
  • Running the game with a native resolution of 3440x1440.
  • Photos of the setup: LINK

Follwed the steps exactly, I have the exact same setup completely but am unable to get any kind of decent frame rates in COD MW (Warzone). GPU works at least but am getting 40 FPS on average when in crouded parts of the map.

@nick_nick, yeah I ran into the issue after some additional testing looks like I had to drop my render resolution to 80% to get better. Initial testing was good but not later

@frank_ong, Damn, I was hoping someone managed to get this game to run as it should using this setup. Guess will have to keep troubleshooting. FYI it's beyond bootcamp too, I've used the exact same eGPU and GPU on my dell laptop (a native windows machine) and get the same results, minus the crashes I get on bootcamp, but the frame rate is still shockingly bad. Ridiculous that a 400 quid GPU is performing like a cheap entry level GPU.
