With all the frustrations that come along with the eGPUs.   I just want to take a moment to share my gratitude with a very small humble victory.  Nevertheless it is a victory.

I currently am able to run my RTX 2080 TI in bootcamp windows 10  and its no longer running my LG ultrafine 4k display via my internal graphics iris pro.  It is running beautifully via the provided USB-c port on the beautiful rtx card.

Small victories.  🙏    .....  let the gaming begin! 🤓

Now, If only we can get drivers for the Mojave.    Steps baby steps.

yesterday I was at the same state as you. But after installing Visual Studio all screens remain black. I tried VS 2015 and VS 2017. I think, it has to do with the Microsoft Reduistributables 2012. Any ideas here?

The USB-C output works very well for any Monitor up to 4K, of course you don't want to run a 4K monitor on the internal Intel Graphics, it's simply not good enough. What a pity the RTX2080Ti underperforms with a eGpu setup. The GTX1080Ti has a better value here, see also  https://egpu.io/forums/builds/2018-15-macbook-pro-rp560x-rtx2080ti32gbps-tb3-asus-xg-station-pro-macos10-13-6-win10-oliverb/

2018 15" MBP & 2015 13" MBP connected to RTX2080Ti GTX1080Ti GTX1080 Vega56 RX580 R9-290 GTX680

The USB-C output of the RTX is supposed to support DisplayPort 1.4 so it should be able to do 5K60Hz (though 10 bit color will require 50Hz if DSC is not used). DSC is supposed to allow 8k 12-bit HDR at 60Hz. The display needs to be able to support DisplayPort 1.3 or 1.4 to allow these resolutions. I don't know if there are displays that use DSC or if DSC is an option for the RTX USB-C port. The port also supports VirtualLink, but instead of mentioning DisplayPort 1.4, they just mention HBR3 which might mean DisplayPort 1.3 (doesn't have DSC).

Mac mini (2018), Mac Pro (Early 2008), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), GA-Z170X-Gaming 7, Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5, Sonnet Echo Express III-D, Trebleet Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe M.2 case

Sorry I have no advise here.   Possibly review your basics and the steps on startup.   I am not familiar with Visual Studio.   Good luck.

I am hopeful that an update or firmware update  comes out to fixes this issue for you and others with 5K Displays.

this is the exact info i have been looking for. hoping to get eGPU to hook up my LG ultrafine 4k. My question is how well does the RTX 2080ti fit in the enclosure? do you have the akitio pro? thanks!!

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
