Hardware: Computer

Mac Mini 2014, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3, 512GB Angelbird wrk for Mac SSD

Hardware: eGPU
Powercolor Red Dragon RX 580 8GB v2 in Sonnet Breakaway 350, black Apple 50cm Thunderbolt cable, Apple Thunderbolt 2->3 adapter

This setup is pretty quiet - the loudest part is actually the PSU of the Sonnet-Box. Eventhough it is still quiet, it annoys me enough that I will eventually swap it out. The upcoming "SilverStone NJ450" seems like a worthy replacement.

While I liked that the Red Dragon GPU did not come with any fancy LED-Lighting, the Sonnets Logo does light up. You can however detatch the cable leading to the logo from the mainboard if you dislike the glowing S.

OS and Setup

On macOS 10.13.1, the egpu works out of the box without any issues. It really is plug and play. Hotplug the egpu, log out, log back in - thats it.
