System specs

2015 MacBookPro 15" 2.5ghz i7
AMD Radeon R9 M370X
MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra

eGPU hardware

Atikio Node
Apple Thunderbolt2/3 adaptor
Zotac GTX 1070 Mini

Installation steps (what did you do to get it all going?)

I previously had this setup with MacOS 10.12 Sierra. I've now wiped old setup clean and installed a fresh 10.13.6 High Sierra.
There's no surprise really and the steps are well explained by the great minds who produced these awesome tools allowing regular joes like me to do this easily.

I chose the for this build to try a different tool and it worked flawlessly on the freshly installed MacOS 10.13.6 + latest security patches.
1. download/install/launch
2. chose option to setup Nvidia
3. reboot with eGPU properly installed and connected via TB2 cable, TB2/3 adaptor, Atikio Node with GTX1070 8GB and external display attached ( Apple Cinema 30 )

It just worked! Everything worked as they were when this setup was running MacOS 10.12 Sierra.

Benchmarks (Include a CUDA-Z or AIDA64 bandwidth pic. Optional: Valley, 3dmark, noting if it's on internal/external LCD )

I didn't see any performance change, and so far it seems more stable ( I had some hanging issue in Sierra with Safari at times )
I used the Heaven instead and 40 fps on high setting for external display

Comments (eg: how has the eGPU improved your workflow or gaming)

This is my primary X-plane 11 system. At same setting ( aircraft, scenery, weather, settings etc.) , the default dGPU R9 M370X delivered about 3-4 fps where GTX1070 would do closer to 30, cpu limiting ( ie per frame time is higher on cpu than on gpu, with low objects setting ).

This is to provide a data point. I've also tested with RX580 Nitro+ with disappointing performance results.

I experienced some odd slowdowns usually when running a few other apps. I tracked it down to what I believe was interference between the dGPU so I had it disabled with boot args ( following the trouble shoot guide ) with these two lines

sudo nvram boot-args="-amd_no_dgpu_accel"
sudo nvram fa4ce28d-b62f-4c99-9cc3-6815686e30f9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00

it has been very consistent all time.

Hi, I want to build e-gpu setup similar like yours, I'm a newbie and already have Akitio Node and MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), is this build (with NVidia card) only works with OS High Sierra? how about Mojave or Catalina?

Pending: Add my system information and expected eGPU configuration to my signature to give context to my posts
