System specs

Dell Latitude E7470 14" (2560x1440)
CPU: i5-6300U @ 2.40GHz
iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 520
Windows 10

eGPU hardware

EXP GDC 8.5x M.2 (NGFF A+E)
Dell DA-2 power supply
MSI GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GT OC (doesn't need extra power)

Hardware pictures

(as above)

Cable comes out below CPU cooler fan quite nicely (filed a small opening to case).

Laptop's internal display is used. Haven't tested external display.

Installation steps

1. Removed internal WLAN-card from M.2 WLAN slot
2. Plugged EXP GDC's NGFF adapter to M.2 slot
3. Plugged graphics card & power supply to EXP GDC
4. Booted Windows 10 --> OS recognized new card and automatically installed Nvidia drivers
5. Device manager showed "Error 43" for GTX 1050
6. Ran nvidia-error43-fixer script --> "Error 43" was fixed (thanks @nando4)
7. Noticed that laptop internal keyboard & touchpad was not completely working after shutdowns
8. Unchecked "Turn on fast startup" in Windows power options --> internal keyboard & touchpad problem was fixed

Nothing else. Setup was easier than expected.

Setup was inspired by @rouzib 's build.

I thought it would be worth a try to make this laptop gaming enabled. I had not high expectations on success and was surprised how well everything went.

So far being using 1280x720 resolution in games (half of the native). Considering to upgrade to GTX 1060 at some point as they get cheaper.

Learned a lot about M.2/NGFF ports in the process!

Only downside is that now I have to use USB WLAN card or ethernet cable (haven't found a WLAN card that would fit to free WWAN port).

Thanks for the egpu.io community for making this all possible!
