@Ritero my Windows 10 setup has been working flawlessly but today, I set up a new usb dock and now every time I try to boot into Windows through the EFI Windows hangs.  I can boot into normal bootcamp Windows but not the EFI Windows.  I installed the usb dock driver through normal Windows after EFI Windows kept hanging and no luck.  Is there a way to reset the EFI boot partition? Or should I just wipe the EFI partition and start again?

To be clear bootcamp Windows is working perfectly fine, but it doesn't recognize the eGPU.

Thanks,

~Kaizers808

@kaizers808 I am not sure sorry. Does it work loading with the dock unplugged? I went with the Core X Chroma which has a USB dock built-in, and that works perfectly for me.

I have heard others talk of booting into Windows (normal bootcamp) first, then booting into EFI afterwards to avoid hanging. I haven't had to do that.

Hi, Ritero! Thank you so much for posting this. I've got the 2016 MacBook Pro 15" as well, and been thinking about getting an eGPU set-up for it. Seems like Razer Core X Chroma with RX 5700 XT is the way to go, and I'm almost 100% decided to get it.

Tell me then, has your overall experience with gaming and 3D rendering programs been great so far? I was thinking about getting this setup mostly because of gaming as well as animation work (I'm training to be a 3D character animator with Maya) and I feel like an eGPU would be very practical to have especially since it seems more and more likely that studios will be hiring more remote workers for animation and stuff due to the global crisis with COVID-19 and all, and getting an eGPU will certainly help speed up animation work and make me more efficient.

Thanks again.

@ritero,

I have a 2016 15 inch MacBook Pro with the following specs...

processor: 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
Memory: 16GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics: Radeon Pro 460  4GB Intel HD Graphics 530 1536MB

I need some direction of what to get, I need a enclosure and graphics card.

I need it for editing videos on Final Cut Pro

NOT GAMING AT ALL!!

I just want to edit 1080p and maybe some 4k videos and get faster rendering and export my videos quicker. Also, would I need a enclosure/graphics card that would require me to get an external monitor?

Thank you in advance

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

.

@mrmac718 I'm no expert sorry. My advice would be get a Radeon eGPU as they are natively supported but you'll need to do your own research into which one. I like my enclosure (Razer Core X Chroma) but I am sure others are good.

I don't use Final Cut Pro or do any form of video editing so I can't tell you anything about that sorry.

Definitely get an external monitor for both speed and screen quality reasons.
