Installation steps
Seriously plug and play - Updated High Sierra, plugged in the sonnet box.

Benchmarks - these were generally run in clamshell mode with the external monitor powered off the eGPU.

• blender cycles - bmw27 - render times in seconds

CPU + 9100 + 560 - 419s
CPU + 9100 - 467s
CPU + 560 - 485s
CPU only - 495s
9100 only - 818s
560 only - 2539s
For reference, the same scene rendered on our boxxtech apex5  on centOS (40 core CPU, P6000 GPU) put up these numbers:
CPU + GPU - 37s
CPU - 55s
GPU - 75s
• photoscan - dense point cloud generation - high setting - percentage of work done by compute device
560 - 47%
9100 - 41%
intel - 8%
CPU - 4%
• nuke - rendering parallel zDefocus (20 frames) in seconds
9100 - 798s
560 - 1158s
CPU - 4082s (approximated)

This machine is corporate issued, and a borrowed eGPU kit (from AMD). I don't play any games, and can't hack the machine up too much as it's not technically mine. At best in any configuration, I'm only seeing 60% utilization in the activity monitor, and in most tasks the discrete card is almost as fast, or faster. Nuke in particular reaps the most benefits, but is still capped at 60%. in addition to the above benchmarks, I've also run Resolve 15 and C4D with the same utilization issue.

I'd love to get this card running close to 100%, since it appears that it would really make a difference with render times.

I'm also halfway into building a windows boot disk and a centOS boot disk, each has it's own issues with getting the drivers loaded or the hardware recognized. Linux sees it, but won't let me select it, and windows doesn't see it. I can't run boot camp due to corporate limitations, but I do have a windows go installation on an external disk.
