I can only repeat a fact about the bandwidth: When using an external monitor and moderate FPS (not more than 60) the bandwidth does not matter. I have compared different kind of bandwidths, TB2 with TB3, PCIe 3.0 with PCI 2.0 or even x4 Lane with x1 Lane: It's all the same. On every single benchmark, (synthetic and game) you get similar results. The difference is marginal.
So you can put any device you want the eGPU, it won't do any harm.

Thank you for sharing this nice build and the quiet mods! I agree with you the Disconnect process could use more refinement.
In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed an improvement in the disconnect operation - disconnects are definitely more reliable.

Moving to Catalina has further improved the disconnect process. Well done Apple - the whole process now only takes a few seconds. Very smooth!
