Hi guys, this is my build since few months, started with Mojave and now with Catalina. The system is very stable, Radeon VII is super fast for both for and gaming. The infamous fan speed issue is not a problem for me because I simply doesn't let my Mac sleep, I continue to bring with me everyday, it is always on machine for me.

I've published some cool videos about Radeon VII on my Italian website and YouTube channel, still worth to see it for non Italian speakers too at least the benchmark charts 😛

How did you get Fortnite run that stable in MacOS?

Pending: Add my system information and expected eGPU configuration to my signature to give context to my posts

Not playing it much anymore, but I got no crashes during the benchmarks.

@ikir What’s your definition of stable?  It looks pretty smooth but I did see a lag spike where the FPS drops for a split second.  This is totally noticeable during gameplay and is pretty common which makes playing Fortnite on MacOs a no-go for me.  The optimization of the game on MacOs is nowhere near as good as Windows, so that’s why I choose to play on Bootcamp w/out eGPU on my 2016 15” MBP.

@lrtn @omardesu

I tested fortnight on my set up as well as having the eGPU connected to a TV (so direct GPU connection unlike my usual set up) and Fortnite was horrible and barely playable (according to my 12 year old Nephew who is good at it) due to massive FPS drops and random lag. I've read its a known issue with the game in macOS.

The random stutter (not lag) happens during the first loading of  assets as far I noticed in the past.

The game is stable I got no crashes or freezes.

@ikir Are you running 10.14.5? I am on 10.14.6 and nothing shows up in my menu bar to tell me that my eGPU is connected properly.

I was on 10.14.5 without particular issue, now I'm on 10.15. it is natively supported, you don't need drivers or script. Thunderbolt 3 is plug&play.

Is your monitor connected to eGPU? Are you using a TB3 cable? Does you eGPU box have enough power to drive the beast? Does Radeon VII's lights turn on?

It happens at the start but it also happens in game too... barely playable I would say.

I don't play since a while, but I remember it happening only during the first loadings, after a while it is smooth.

@ikir

I am using the USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the enclosure and I can see the Radeon logo in red inside the casing, plus the fans start spinning on the card – and when computer goes to sleep the package goes crazy with all the fans att full power. So I would say that I have power.

It is difficult to be sure however, since Gigabyte recommends a 750W PSU and the enclosure has only 650 W with max 500W GPU support

Since it is working for you, what enclosure are you using?

In the specs of my enclosure RVII is not compatible in macOS but it is compatible for Windows.
