After using eGPUs for two years I've learned to live with the extra care required by eGPUs. I find that I need to reinstall NVIDIA graphics drivers anytime there significant changes to my system in order to maintain stability. Graphics drivers need to be loaded after a Windows update for example. When I travel, I game on the laptop dGPU, but when I do, I always reload drivers before I begin gaming. Same thing applies when I return home and connect the eGPU - reload graphics drivers. This prevents any issues that I've encountered in the past.

I recommend against turning off your laptop display when using eGPU. Something funky happens with the system and causes odd display issue (Windows appears to run as if the display were ~ 30Hz refresh rate). It can be temporarily resolved by reinstalling NVIDIA drivers but comes back the next time you boot up your system with the eGPU. Leaving the laptop display on, even as secondary display and the issue will not present itself.

There’s something holding your 8750H CPU performance, maybe you processors state on 99%?
I find also actually there’s something wrong with graphics score on Razer Blade that is very low compared to my previous Blade 14 2017 that already low compared to Blade stealth in graphics score. Here’s the firestrike comparison
Blade 15+Core v2 1080ti

Blade 14 2017+ Core v2 1080ti

I think mobo on Blade or gaming laptop has different architecture or bandwidth than ultrabook in term TB3 connection, idk quite sure though, hope I’m wrong and it could be addressed by software.

About reinstalling graphics driver, I had similar issue last week, and solved by updating  both when connected with enclosure and without to same version, I found at first time I got the Blade 15 last Thursday, after disconnecting it I had to reinstall driver for dgpu again to get it detected, never experienced it on previous setting though.

This was in "Balanced Mode" in Razer Synapse software.  I didn't learn until later, that this does not allow the full power to the CPU as "Gaming Mode" does. I actually don't prefer gaming mode as I like the quiet gaming. I will rerun the benchmarks for completeness though.

Do you have a benchmark for your laptop without the eGPU? Curious what the 1070 vs. eGPU 1080ti is like.

Hey rb6freak, I noticed you have the same exact laptop I have. I purchased the Akitio Node Pro and an RTX2070 and I just can't get it to function. The computer sees the 2070 in the device manager, but says there are errors and it stopped. I've tried all manner of basic troubleshooting and nothing I do seems to work. I'd appreciate any input if you have any.

Sorry for the delay, I don't login here as much lately.  Did you solve your problem?  What says there is an error?  My suggestions would be; 1] Disable Windows Fast Startup (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\System Settings). 2] Ensure you have the Razer GPU switcher app installed.  3] Install the NVIDIA drivers while the node and 2070 are connected.  4] After disabling fast startup, try powering on / booting the whole system with the node connected to the laptop.

The GPU switcher automatically disables the dGPU (the laptop Nvidia GPU) in device manager when it detects another GPU over thunderbolt 3.

@joi_kansai

I think I am having same issue with my XPS 15 9570 which got the same CPU as yours (i7-8570H).

I have been testing my Razer Core X Chroma with the following GPUs

1. RTX2070: Firestrike score 14800 (in Desktop: 24500)

2. GTX1070: Firestrike score 12500 (in Desktop: 18500)

3. RX580/590: Firestrike score around 11500~12500 (In Desktop 14500~16000)

4. RX VEGA64 OC: Firestrike score 17600 (In Desktop 24000) My friend got XPS 15 9550.... but he got 21000 from the Firestrike with same VEGA64...

5. RX 5700XT OC: Firestrike score 18900...

I am not sure that such performance drop is only existing with the 3Dmark... I really hope that this is caused by some driver issue.
