Hi,

I've just joined this forum, but actually I have been being a silent reader so far, and this forum helps me much on my research building my eGPU project.

Allow me to share my eGPU project. I've made youtube video in this link below:

and this is my system specs:

14" Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 6

  • Intel Core i7-8650U
  • 16GB Ram
  • 1TB SSD
  • WQHD Matter version
  • Windows 10 1909

eGPU hardware:

  • Custom built 3D printed chasis with PETG material
  • ADT-Link R43SG-TB3
  • HDPLEX 200W DC-ATX power supply unit
  • HDPLEX 200W AC-DC internal power adapter

I build this project with the objective to build a compact, clean, and portable eGPU for my needs, because sometimes I need powerful GPU, sometimes I just don't need that.

I just simply like the portability of this Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 6. But when I need powerful GPU, I just simply bring this eGPU.

Any suggestion what benchmark should I run?

Thanks

Neat video! I was thinking of doing a build like this for my XPS 13, but I’m a bit skeptical on a few points. For one thing, I’ve seen mixed reviews on egpus working with the XPS 13 and even the AliExpress website says that they can’t recommend the ADT-Link TB3 with dell because they can’t confirm compatibility.

The other thing I was wondering is how easy is it to plug and play? I know the first time or two will require restarts, but once you have all the drivers and stuff downloaded, does it still require restarts, or does it easily/automatically connect/disconnect?

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

This is awesome. Already ordered my ADT-Link R43SG from AliExpress, could you share the 3D printer project so I could try to adapt it to fit an ATX power supply in it? Thanks

@nicolas_specht, I too bought the ADT-Link R43SG from Aliexpress for about $50. Do you think i could buy an NVME to thunderbolt 3 enclosure $80 ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32952100894.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.4eba4c4dH7KbQp) to convert the ADT-Link R43SG to TB3? The reason i'm asking is because the ADT-Link R43SG-TB3 is quite pricey at $250 and if the individual components add up to less than that we the same result why not. Thanks

@anjas, Hi! I'm also looking at setting up a build like this for a latitude 7490.

I asked on aliexpress if they could inform me better on the dell/hp limitations, but I still haven't got an answer 😅

Did you test with your XPS yet? Do you have any insights on any limitation?
