@akkis, did it work on bootcamp? which w10 version? internal or external ?

@snoek, can you tell me what scores you get on cinebench r20 and Geekbench 5. Does it sustain 3.3 ghz on ciner20 through the whole test?

@itsage, which guide did you use? Would you recommend to try the w10 2004 insider lane . it seems to solve the issues for the mini, but is is applicable to the mbp 12 2020?

@tsakal, Yup worked in bootcamp, same version in post #1, internal.

@itsage, question. Since i disabled the other 3 pci bus, I cannot connect anything to any of the USBC ports correct (ex. ext harddrive).

Also I noticed that my mic gets really fuzzy in bootcamp when gaming. Could it be because it is also connected to a PCI bus which I disabled?

@tom_kenna Glad to hear. Enjoy your eGPU setup!

@akkis, The disabled PCI Express roots won't work as Thunderbolt 3. However they are functional as USB-C ports. I've used a USB-C SSD drive to play Steam games off of it in this very same configuration.

Hi guys, I would appreciate if you could share with me what is your gpu frequency while gaming in windows. For some reason my i7 on w10 2004 at 60% utilization is running at 3.6ghz while my 2018 8th gen i7 is running at 4.1ghz albeit on w10 1903. As a result my heaven and gaming performance is about 10% lower. I use same power plans and same fan curves. In addition I checked thoroughly the performance of the the i7's on macOS 15.5 running R20, Heaven and Handbrake. In all benchmarks the 10th gen is running at lower frequency and it looks like it runs also with more variability. Please share any info as I am not sure if my copy is bad or the 10th gen is a bud.

Examples

R20 5 Thread test

2020 i7 32g ram

Av power 35w at 62% util running at 3.4ghz at 100 Celcius.

2018 i7 16g ram

Av power 35w at 62% util running at 3.55ghz at 84 Celcius.

R20 2 Thread test

2020 i7 32g ram

Av power 20w at 25% util running at 3.6ghz at 80 Celcius.

2018 i7 16g ram

Av power 36w at 25% util running at 4.4ghz at 95 Celcius.

Valley Basic preset in order to push the cpu

2020 Av 86.5fps min 34 max 134 score 3618

2018 Av 98 fps mn 32 max 137 score 4116

see pictures

F1 2019 benchmark High settings with shadows, crowd and vehicle reflections medium windowed

2020 120 fps running at 3.6ghz

2018 130 fps running at 4.1ghz

Hey all -

I used Win10 v1903 for quite some time now, due to the fact that I use that Windows partition to work as well I would prefer to update to v2004. By doing this as well as performing the pic.sys swap on macOS I crushed the complete system and I had to reinstall from scratch.

Anybody had the same experience with the pci.sys swap method? Also do you have any recommendations to write on NTFS via macOS?

Cheers and thanks a lot!

- P

EDIT: For some reason it worked this time fine, with just replacing the pci.sys after installing a clean and fresh Win10 v2004, also installing all of the drivers (including error 12), disabling 3 of 4 TB3 ports & iSight Cam. Swapping in macOS, rebooting, works.

Thanks!!
