System specs

MacBook Pro (Four Thunderbolt 3 ports, with touch bar, mid 2020)
2.0 GHz Intel Core i5 (i5-1038NG7)
16 GB RAM
Intel Iris Plus Graphics

eGPU Hardware

Razer Core X Chroma
XFX AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
Thunderbolt 3 cable (6 feet)
Dell 27" Gaming Monitor (S2719DGF)

OSX Guide

  1. Plug and play, works great on macOS Big Sur!

Windows Guide

  1. Leave the eGPU disconnected and use Boot Camp Assistant in macOS to install a fresh copy of Windows 10 (version 1903). I used this ISO: Win10_1903_V1_English_x64.iso
  2. After it is done installing, boot into Windows 10, get it all set up, and install the latest updates for Windows.
  3. Install Apple boot camp drivers.
  4. Turn off Link State Power Management in the Power Options. Turning this option off lets Windows 10 boot without needing to unplug/replug the Thunderbolt 3 during boot up!
  5. Downgrade pci.sys, see this thread.
  6. Now power on the MacBook Pro with the eGPU + external monitor attached.
  7. Windows should recognize that something new is plugged in and the external monitor should show the desktop with wrong display resolution.
  8. Download and install the latest AMD Radeon drivers for the graphics card.
  9. Everything should now be working great!

Hey, I plan to build exactly the same setup and would like to know what fps I can expect in bootcamp gaming. And thx for tutorial.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@ana-satsujin, Hi I guess you mean the Apple M1 chip 2020 MacBook Pro. Sure it won't work with BootCamp.

But what we're discussing here is about the Intel chip 2020 MacBook Pro. It'll work and works fine with BootCamp. Smile

2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM
