Do you have more pics and/or details about how you transplanted the hardware into a Dan A4 case? I've long thought about doing the same to try and downsize a Mantiz Venus and I'm curious what if any modifications you had to make.

Amazing thanks! I've tossed around the idea of designing and having a custom enclosure built but the cost of a custom one-off seemed to rapidly approach that of boutique cases like the A4. At that point it makes more sense to transplant into an existing SFF case like the A4 or many Taobao variants which would allow for re-purposing back to a SFF desktop build and/or have much better resale value down the line.

Did you ever come up with a solution for the I/O shield? You could always get a blank like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/323163024635 and stamp/cut out the openings you need.

@honkusmaximus, Yeah these boutique SFF cases are great for eGPUs, especially since most are aluminum, very easy to drill for your eGPU board mounts. No I never ended up making something as an IO shield, but I think I will now with that item you showed me, thank you!

Hey I have the same 9700 as you and I have a Razer Core do you have any issues regarding the egpu not being detected sometimes on restarts or when it goes into full sleep?

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@vatick, I've learned to adjust my computing habits using eGPUs. I do not let my system sleep while connected to power / eGPU and I turn off "Fast Startup" in power settings (otherwise your system never really shuts off, just goes into a driver/kernel level hibernate). I boot into Windows with the eGPU connected from powered off state. So in essence, I avoid problems like you described.

I am encountering an unrelated issue which I haven't had time to properly diagnose yet; eGPU crashes and powers off around 5 minutes in a demanding game. The event view shows graphics driver failure. I tried multiple drivers with no success yet. I suspect the eGPU is not allowing the GPU fans to ramp up as it doesn't get loud, so in turn it appears to be overheating, but not confirmed. Next week I'm going to load up MSI Afterburner to further troubleshoot and set manual fan profile.

@rb6freak, Thanks for the insight. I think I will have to adjust accordingly then also I am not getting that issue regarding the GPU and I have played quite a bit.

@rb6freak

Do you have time to run a Superposition (unigine) benchmark and report scores? Have you noticed if your 2080 Ti is capable of reaching boost clocks? My GPU (2080Ti) seems to be stuck at 1350MHz no matter what.
