Hello everyone !

 

The most efficient thermal design for tiger lake CPU I've tested so far !

Still using the same eGPU of my main setup :

2020 15" Lenovo Legion 7i (RTX2070S) [10th,8C,H] + RTX 3080 @ 32Gbps-TB3 (Razer Core X Chroma) + Win10 20H2

 

System specs :

Laptop :

Acer Predator Triton 300 SE

i5 11300H / 16GB 3200MHz / 512Go NVMe PCIe Gen3x4

dGPU : RTX 3060 6Gb TGP 85W

 

Screens :

- main : Acer Predator XB271HUBMIPRZ (27" WQHD 165Hz IPS)

- secondary : SKILLKORP SKP_E20-27 (27" WQHD 144Hz VA)

OS :Windows 10 20H2

> This laptop have the best heat dissipation hardware for tiger lake CPU I've tested so far (big not too loud fans, vapor chamber,...).

> With PL2 @64W and PL1 @50W, it can sustain 4GHz on all core @45W ! (that's with i5 11300h, i7 version are not yet available here)

> Standard mode is good for eGPU use, Performance mode is better when using dGPU

> Turbo mode (all fan at max speed) is pretty much useless and very noisy

 

> The only culprit is the need of the AC adapter to unlock full TDP, on battery or usb-c charging it's cap arround 16-18W

> Also, Cuda-z seems pretty low for TigerLake, but EGPU perf are ok

@wildfear, Thank you for posting this build! The cooling system looks very beefy. Best Buy US has the i7-11375H with RTX 3060 configuration [product link].

Oh gosh I hated this laptop. 

 

  • The CPU is very slow and is a huge bottleneck for the 3060, I had the 11375h, it's basically a 1165G7 with a higher power limit. 
  •  
  • Warzone barely ran above 90fps with the CPU at full load and that poor 3060 sitting around 70-80% usage. The G14 with a lower power 3060 ran 100+ at all times
  •  
  • The USB PD port only accepts higher wattage chargers and has no boost circuit. 65w and above
  •  
  • my model had the screen brightness keys reversed. 
  •  
  • Idle power draw never dipped below 8watts so battery life was awful, My razer can dip to 5w and that has a freaking 8 core and a screen running at 240hz. 
  •  

the design was great and it felt great in the hands but for the price, it's a total bummer.

> i tested with 100W and 65w (from 2x TB3 enclosure), both were detected as low power / charging and TDP was limited but working. I think it's normal that <65W are to low to support 35w CPU and 85W GPU.

> I find idle / low usage battery life to be good with default profile but maybe because I always use throttlestop on my laptop to set lock turbo and speedstep.

the design was great and it felt great in the hands but for the price, it's a total bummer.

Sorry, hate is too strong of a word, just disliked. 

 

 

few things, yes you are right. It's the best TB4 CPU combo out as of now. No denying that!

 

a 100w USB pd lets my razer play esports at 120fps without discharging. So ovewatch is totally doable. Overwatch on that Acer SE actually discharges on a 100w PD charger. Don't know why that is?

 

If you disable an nvidia card in an optimus system, you are disabling optimus and therefore keeping the nvidia card active. I know you know that but many people don't seem to realize that. 

 

I'm glad you enjoy it though! The build is solid, even if it's a bit heavy. Also great details in the benchmarks!!

 

EDIT: they would have been better off using a 6 core 10750h locked at 35watts instead. It would have been way more powerful at the same package draw. The chip might also be cheaper lol

It would not have had an embedded TB controller at that point and the eGPU performance would have suffered from external-to-cpu TB controller.

We need laptops with the new 11th Gen H45 chips to start shipping. Smile
