System specs (model inc screen size, CPU, iGPU, dGPU, operating system which eGPU is being used)

2021 15" Razer Blade Advanced (RTX3080) [11th,8C,H]  - specs at: Razer Blade Advanced RZ09-0409x (the one with OLED 3080 option.)

eGPU hardware (eGPU enclosure, video card, any third-party TB3 cable , any custom mods)

ADT-Link R43SG 4.0

EVGA RTX 3080 Ti

650w Cosair RM650

Hardware pictures & Installation steps (note: require 5+ posts for "attach files" button to appear. Or can link from say http://imgur.com   BUT post the .jpg/.png image file rather than a link to it)

this is the setup, I've used a to power the GPU.

(note, if you are going to copy the build I have, the EVGA 3080ti has 3x8pin PCIE power connector, the RM650 only included 2, so you'd better have some spares left)

The connection is rather simple, just unscrew the laptop and open the bottom plate, the RBA 15" 2021 edition have two M.2 Pcie4.0 SSD slot, that is put in a rather strange spot, they stacked on top of each other so it saved some space, (clever engineering though)

Now just do what a regular PC GPU installation on the adaptor, and follow the guide of ADT so your GPU won't fall off.

When you turn on the laptop, be aware of the light on the adaptor,

If the first two went on, that means the GPU is connected to the laptop.

Now you need to do is the check if the GPU showed up on the device manager. (restart if it didn't show up)

You will need to use the nvidia-error43-fixer by @nando4 if you are using Nvidia EGPU and DGPU

Benchmarks (Include a CUDA-Z or AIDA64 bandwidth pic. Optional: Valley, 3dmark, noting if it's on internal/external LCD )

PCIE bus speed test on 3Dmark, compared to TB EGPU 2.66G/s the M.2 one got 5.78G/s

Use  GPU-Z  to check if the GPU is running @pcie4.0x4

Clearly, the 3080ti has some edge over the extended bandwidth from the PCIE4

Comments (eg: how has the eGPU improved your workflow or gaming)

I am going to do another review on the Red Devil 6800XT later, and I have a new laptop that is coming soonTM,(dell precision 7760) (come on dell, why you are so slow)

Hi, Thanks for the build !

Two questions:

How long did it take to get the ADT-link R43SG 4.0 delivered?

I have a 3070ti and a 11800h, still trying to collect info on how better it is compared to a standard TB3 enclosure. Would it be possible for you to some gaming benchmarks? (BF5, C2077, etc..)

Cheers

@swilz, the problem with tb is compatibility. i was trying to play apex legends on razer corex but i got a very big performance decrease to literally unplayable @20fps in open area. in games like far cry 6, the game will only achieve average 40fps in literally every configs. so it depends on your games to play, and how do you value the portability. For games like cyber punk, i am able to achieve around 100fps on 1080p max setting with ray tracing and dlss. i don't play bf5 but i think the 3dmark had giving a score of 180+fps(see the pic above).

the adt-link r43sg 4.0 took about 10 days to arrive to uk, it actually depends on when you order and the delivery options.

@gu_tally, OK thanks for the answer. I may go down this route, as I also have a core x and it is clearly bottlenecking some games,

Do you have some plans for long-term setup? Cutting the bottom lid or keep the system wired at all time?

@swilz, Actually i am waiting for my new laptop, the dell precision 7x60 line ups have a quick access SSD slot which could be a good option, I will do a further testing when the laptop arrived.
