This is an upgrade from my first setup .  The old one is nuc8i5+rx580 2304 with 4g memory.

my nuc8 have some issue with fan noise and get heat and the cpu will not run correctly.so i contacted to the intel warranty. after some

discuction(the nuc8 is out of stock).I return the product and Intel refunded me. so I am very happy to get an new nuc for me . so I pick an nuc11 tnki5 .

and I order an amd rx6800 for my egpu.

after doing some benchmark. I think the setup is still has a huge loss of performence.(about 15% loss) from the score I found online.

even I changed my tb3 to tb4 . why they are talking about the loss of performence in tb4 is smaller than tb3?  anyone can give me some idea?

thanks for you reply .

Can you cite the score you found online that you are using as a comparison?

hi , i just do not remember the detail . the time spy score is about 14000+(grahic score)   fse score is about 21000+  there is about 15-17%lose of peformence.

but if i use this setup for mining crypto. the hashrate will not lose. that's  great LoL

Oh! I thought you meant that it was an additional loss over and above the old setup. That definitely didn't seem right for going from external TB3 controller to embedded TB4 controller on the host. It is true however that the more GPU bound you are the less the performance loss percentage will be. I would imaging going from rx580 to 6800 that you are mostly not GPU bound any longer. It's the reason why gaming with eGPU at 4K will be much closer to native desktop performance than 1080 or 1440.

i found something interesting. that if i run a benchmark with my egpu setup. it will loss 15%performence than the desktop setup(with the same graphic card in the desktop setup). but in real game. the fps is  almost not loss. it is very close to the desktop setup. Did I made my point clear? Sweaty

That's great! I guess the game itself is probably GPU bound then and not seeing a great effect of bandwidth and latency of TB, which is a good thing.
