2021 15" Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 1 (Q T1000) [10th,6C,H] + RTX A4000 @ 32Gbps-TB3 (Sonnet Breakaway 550) + Win10
Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 1 15.6" 500nits, Core i7 10750H, Intel UHD, Quadro T1000, Windows 10
Sonnet Breakaway 550, PNY RTX A4000 16GB
I set this up with the mindset of using the RTX A4000 I already had and combining it with a Lenovo with a dGPU so it could still run some things decently even detached from the desk. That and as few cords as possible. I know this is crippling the A4000 pretty bad, but it runs smoother than any other egpu setup I have had before.
Installed Nvidia Driver 472, Disabled the intel iGPU, it initially didn't recognize the RTX as anything but a Microsoft Display adaptor. Disabled iGPU, Rebooted, still didn't recognize the RTX, re-ran the installer for the nvidia driver, rebooted, the Quadro and the RTX showed up no problem. Had it running in 10 minutes.
Benchmarks - Internal LCD 1920x1080
Cuda-z T1000 and RTX A4000
Unigine Heaven - T1000 RTX A4000
I game on this laptop. It runs everything I have at at least 60 fps, the monitor is only 1920x1080 60hz, but it runs great. Everything runs on near max or max settings. Even running on the internal lcd, the RTX A4000 still drive everything incredibly well. The A4000 is basically a 3070 with 16GB of ram that's power limited, and still far faster than anything I've ever had. Very happy with this setup. The P15 500nit lcd gets a bit dark sometimes, but looks pretty good overall.
