System specs (Acer Predator 15, I7 6700HQ, intel 630, GTX 970m, Win 10)

eGPU hardware (AKiTiO Node, RX 5600 XT, stock)

Hardware pictures (note: require 5+ posts for "attach files" button to appear. pictures to come after 5 posts )

Installation steps (downloaded latest Thunderbolt software by using Dell website, got me version 16.3.61.275, updated firmware from acer website (nvm 14). received node, installed card, plugged it into the thunderbolt port, turned on power, and computer recognized it. A warning appeared saying that my computer was not compatible with external graphics and the attached device may not work.

As I could see the external display attached to the EGPU was working I ignored and closed those warnings.

I turned off geforce experience. I installed And graphics card software which loaded drivers and detected the card

I disabled the onboard 970m (probably didn't need to but just in case) and started up Shadows of War to test. I was able to crank it onto Ultra graphics setting except textures which had to be on high due to only 6gb VRAM (setting was asking for 8GB) and it was running 73 fps on the benchmark at 1080 ultra wide. the lows were in the 40 fps range. I started the game and played it and was pleasantly surprised with around 50-70 in game monitoring through rivatuner. With the onboard 970m my fps range with ultra wide was 30-40 fps at medium settings. Huge difference and awesome upgrade.

Mar 2020 I purchased the AKiTiO Node for $406 Canadian and Powercolor RX 5600 XT for $422 Canadian off of amazon.

I chose the AMD card as I planned to use this eGPU with my 2015 Mac which I got working and will post that build next.
