 Gaming Setup :

Minimalist Setup :

Installation steps (what did you do to get it all going?)

Step :

1. Installed Windows 11 Pro via bootcamp

2. plug in your Monitor to Sonnet Puck

3. plug in your Sonnet Puck to Thunderbolt 3 (usb C interface in MBA)

4. Turn on MBA, then press “option” until Windows show up

5. Choose windows, and install AMD Adrenaline Driver

6. Restart and login to windows 11 DONE !

Known Issue :

1. NO recommendation to restart from Mac to Windows, with clamshell mode (sometime error), turn off instead.

2. DO NOT HOT PLUG in Windows--> BSOD

3. Please SAFELY REMOVE all your setup including eGPU

 4. Sometime, your fan full loud, using headset instead

Optimize your gaming :

1. Read and do this modification to your MBA i5 before gaming setup. Trouble solver for known Issue : Thermal Throttling in MBA i5 2020

2. My setup add MEMO magnetic cooling(BlackShark or whatever magnetic cooling) to back-cover of Macbook ( advertise for phone, but i use this to my MBA, and place your MBA in stand position)

 3. Plug in all gaming stuff to eGPU  : PS controller via controller hub, external storage (if you choose installed Steam and gaming in external Storage)

  1. After install AMD Adrenaline Driver, turn off “auto update” and choose installed game to “Gaming Mode”. Other than that, leave setting as is
  2. Implement Best Setting for Samsung Curved monitor  , change refresh rate to 72 Hz, ALWAYS use external display for max experience in eGPU

B. GeekBench 5 Test both Win 11 and MacOs Ventura With internal (intel Iris Plus) and external GPU (AMD RX 5500 XT)

Comments (eg: how has the eGPU improved your workflow or gaming)

This setup can be used as entertainment and office setup, although i choose MacOS for this purpose. After this setup installed properly on your desk, your gaming experience drastically increased. I have installed Persona 5 Royal, DOA 5, Street Fight V, Stray etc, all play smooth like butter, even though not perfect like dedicated PC Game :). You can play at 1080p, get 30-60 fps stable frame rate, CPU load 40-60%, and most important is you still got power efficiency under 80 W load most of times, so this is enough for me. Do not hesiTATE to share your experience or better setup. Thanks. Bootcamp Bo$$.
