I updated the firmware for the Node last night and this enclosure is now ready for prime time. It was plug-n-play with a Dell XPS 13 9350. This was not the case prior to the AKiTiO Node firmware update. Time Spy with Nvidia Optimus - http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/17307843
With regards to the XPS Thunderbolt 3 PCIe speed running at 2x rather than the advertised 4x, the performance loss vs. the Late 2016 13" MacBook Pro is about 15% in Nvidia Optimus mode. Time Spy results through AKiTiO Node + GTX 980 Ti:

I haven't encountered anything yet. It's hot-pluggable and does not have issues with sleep/wakeup so far.
Did you update the firmware using the XPS 13 or did you use a computer that was already compatible?
Would be a shame if customers weren't able to update it if they only had their XPS on hand. Hopefully they will have the firmware update shipped with future batches.
Excellent question. I did not update it through the Dell XPS 9350 but I'm certain the Node firmware update would work if I did.
The XPS 9350 has always been able to connect to the thunderbolt enclosure itself just fine. It's the incompatible firmware between the Node and XPS which triggers the message "External GPU Support: No". This message it still there after the Node firmware update but that doesn't matter as long as the eGPU shows up in Device Manager. The only way for this to disappear is when Dell releases a new Thunderbolt firmware update for this XPS 9350.
Also will the node also support the new nvidia cards such as the Nvida 1080 GTX or just work with GTX 980
@itsage What thunderbolt firmware are you using in the XPS 9350? When I upgraded from 8 to 16 I got "eGPU supported: no" in the thunderbolt settings. Would you say that's OK?
Also, does it work for tensorflow? I don't need gaming.
