Looks like you could Dremel a hole where the square venting holes are under the Key Lock (or maybe knock out the D-SUB connector tab but that might be too offset from the M.2 slot?)

There's a twist in the cable from the M.2 slot to the R43SG. That can be fixed if the eGPU or DeskMini is placed upside down. Alternatives:

  • The R43SG-TU could be used if the eGPU is placed in front of the DeskMini.
  • The R43SG is oriented like a R43SL. If you don't need all the features of the R43SG then:

    • R43SR - eGPU sideways at rear of DeskMini with ports to left.
    • R43UR - eGPU on the left of DeskMini (looking from front of DeskMini) with ports to front.
    • R43ML - eGPU on the left of DeskMini (looking from front of DeskMini) with ports to rear (one fold in the cable).
    • R43MR - eGPU on the right of DeskMini (looking from front of DeskMini) with ports to rear (cable must extend over fan).
    • But those options require some custom power supply adapter cables for the Dell DA-2 (split a 12V to the PCIe slot, and make PCIe power cables for GPU) or use a computer ATX PSU.

Maybe one of the R44xx can be used to put a M.2 slot on the outside of the Desk Mini, then one of the above can be connected to that. Actually, in your picture, you have the Desk Mini on its side, so what I call the left of the DeskMini is the bottom and the right is the top (and the top with the vents is the left, and the bottom (where the motherboard is) is the right of the DeskMini). The R44MF or R44UF can put a M.2 slot on the bottom either near the left or right side. The R43SG can connect to one of them and have the ports facing rear (or the other with ports facing front).

Mac mini (2018), Mac Pro (Early 2008), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), GA-Z170X-Gaming 7, Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5, Sonnet Echo Express III-D, Trebleet Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe M.2 case

@joevt, Original plan was to mount the system on the backplate of a UE48J5100AW wallmount.

@vibrio, good to see that i'm not the only one with a Deskmini eGPU build. same method but with case modding & A300+5500 XT here. thanks for your sharing your build, gave me a push to start mine.

@joevt, the perfect spot to Dremel a hole for a system like this is I/O shield. see my build for close pictures 😛
