System specs (model inc screen size, CPU, iGPU, dGPU, operating system)

imac late 2013 2,5 i5 quad core, intel iGPU, no dGPU

eGPU hardware razer core X, standard apple dongle to convert Tb3 to TB1, EVGA XC 2080 RTX gaming XC

Installation steps (what did you do to get it all going?)

had to struggle for weeks trying different variants,  finally found that only sticking with windows 7/8.1 would work due to issues with windows 10 not activating iGPU even with OSX emulation causing error 12.

1. install refind, enable osx emulation
2. install windows 8.1
3. boot into safe mode, uninstall intel and nvidia drivers
4, plug in egpu and install latest drivers from nvidia website.
5, roll back intel driver if it tries to get installed otherwise it breaks the setup

Benchmarks

external monitor, Heaven ultra 1080p, 2500 without overclocking and 2750 with overclocking.

Comments (eg: how has the eGPU improved your workflow or gaming)
using for architectural work

Hi,

I have an  iMac  Late 2013 i5 with Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB but I want to improve the performance. I also have an  Nvidia GTX 960  card. I want to buy an enclosure like  Akitio Thunder 2  and run the Nvidia card on my  iMac . I am currently on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 and I want to use the graphics card to primarily boost my FCPX rendering times.
Can you please tell me if the Nvidia card will work without any problems?
Should I attempt this DIY hack?

Much appreciated,
dRoLdDy
