System specs: Mac mini 2012, i7-3720QM, HD4000, RX580 8GB, OSX 10.13.4

eGPU hardware  XG Station Pro, RX580, Apple Adpater TB3/TB1&2 50cm Apple TB1/2 Cable

Hardware pictures: Not so interesting just the box connected.

Installation steps Install GPU in enclosure and install the 2.02 purge-wrangler, shutdown and connect it all up.

Benchmarks:

Unigine Heaven @1440 47.5fps @900 92.1fps
GeekBench OpenCL 110k
CineBench r15 56.9fps
Unigine Valley @1440 49.6fps

Comments I was hoping that the RX580 would be better than 1060 3GB in OSX as Apple seems to like AMD more than Nvidia, I will upgrade to Vega56 and see if I can get 60fps in Zwift.

Hi,
just a small question, I am trying to find the right box for my old MBP 2011.
Does the USB C connector works? Could you use i.e. a USB C Hub if  connected with your beauty box? 😉
Did you tried boot camp?
Thanks,
Alex

MBP early 2011( i7, 16GB, 1TB)

You can use any box. Just need to use Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter. Any brand TB2 cable.

@TobyB Thanks for this datum - my exact Mac Mini proc and OS version.  It looks like the RX 580 in this configuration gives about 10 times faster frame rates with higher quality settings.  I have been limping along flying x-plane flight sim at 20 fps with everything turned down to minimum.  This looks like a great alternative to upgrading to spending $2500 for a new iMac.

2018 Mac Mini, Radeon RX 580 8GB in Sonnet Breakaway Box 350, LG 25” 21:9 and Dell P2415Q 4K monitors (both on eGPU)

Hi Wesley, thank you for your answer... but I am looking for the USB C output of the Asus pro, if that is working with TB adapter... under OSX and boot camp.
MBP=>TB adapter =>Asus XG=>USB C hub

I bought a 2014 mini, will post some picture of that setup.

I can try to plug a USB C device on to the XG station and see if mac sees it.

I never tried bootcamp as I have windows PC's I can try if people are interested to see what happens.

Is an AMD card faster than it's direct NVIDIA competitor, in a Mac eGPU? The RX 580 vs. GTX 1060 6GB eg.?

2012 Mac mini i7 2.6Ghz . 16GB RAM . 500GB SSD . 1TB HDD . Razer Core X . Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ SE . DVI 60Hz monitor . MacOS 10.14.6 . Windows 10 LTSC 1809

I have a 1060 3GB, for me on this Mac:

Cinebench was 57.54fps
Heaven was 100.2fps
GeekBench OpenGL 88.6k

So not much in it, I thought RX580 would be much better?  The AMD card is supported better since the drivers are inbox
