2012 Mac Mini [3rd,4C,Q] + RX 580 @ 10Gbps-TB1>TB3 (ASUS XG Station Pro) + macOS 10.13.4 [TobyB]
Hardware pictures: Not so interesting just the box connected.
Installation steps Install GPU in enclosure and install the 2.02 purge-wrangler, shutdown and connect it all up.
just a small question, I am trying to find the right box for my old MBP 2011.
Does the USB C connector works? Could you use i.e. a USB C Hub if connected with your beauty box? 😉
Did you tried boot camp?
You can use any box. Just need to use Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter. Any brand TB2 cable.

@TobyB Thanks for this datum - my exact Mac Mini proc and OS version. It looks like the RX 580 in this configuration gives about 10 times faster frame rates with higher quality settings. I have been limping along flying x-plane flight sim at 20 fps with everything turned down to minimum. This looks like a great alternative to upgrading to spending $2500 for a new iMac.
Come on, hardware pics, please....
I bought a 2014 mini, will post some picture of that setup.
I can try to plug a USB C device on to the XG station and see if mac sees it.
I never tried bootcamp as I have windows PC's I can try if people are interested to see what happens.
this sounds really great if you could do this.... both USB C test and USB C tests under Bootcamp
I have a 1060 3GB, for me on this Mac:
Cinebench was 57.54fps
Heaven was 100.2fps
GeekBench OpenGL 88.6k
So not much in it, I thought RX580 would be much better? The AMD card is supported better since the drivers are inbox
