System specs: Mac mini 2012, i7-3720QM, HD4000, Vega56 8GB, OSX 10.13.4

 

eGPU hardware  XG Station Pro, Vega56, Apple Adpater TB3/TB1&2 50cm Apple TB1/2 Cable

 

Hardware pictures: Not so interesting just the box connected.

 

Installation steps Install GPU in enclosure and install the 2.02 purge-wrangler, shutdown and connect it all up.

 

Benchmarks:

in vega64 mode (flashed)

Unigine Heaven @1440 81.6fps @900 117.9fps
GeekBench OpenCL 149k
CineBench r15 59.4fps
Unigine Valley @1440 66.3fps

in vega56 mode

Unigine Heaven @1440 74.6fps @900 118.3fps
GeekBench OpenCL 142k
CineBench r15 57.6fps
Unigine Valley @1440 65.7fps

 

Comments Seems like the Vega is a big step up from RX580

How does the R9 Nano compare with the Vegas?

Present: 2012 Mac mini + PowerColor RX 56 Vega Nano @10Gbps-TB1 + PowerColor Mini eGFX 180F via Apple TB3 to TB2 + macOS Catalina 10.15.4

Previous: 2012 Mac Mini + GTX1070 @ 10Gbps-TB1 (AKiTiO Thunder3 via Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter) + macOS

The report on Redit say 250W with the flashed vs 310W for a true56.  I just used the stock PSU, it's warm but not crazy after benches.

@username, I didn't test but Vega  is about 30% faster on paper.
