2016 15" MacBook Pro (RP450) [6th,4C,H] + RX 580 @ 32Gbps-TB3 (Gigabyte Gaming Box) + macOS 10.13.4 & Win10 [itsage] // VR gaming
2016 15" MacBook Pro - i7-6700HQ/Radeon Pro 450 dGPU/HD Graphics 530 iGPU/16GB RAM/256GB SSD
macOS 10.13.4 & 10.13.5 Beta - The RX 580 enjoys full support from Apple so nothing to report here.
Windows 10 1709 & 1803 - I performed the same procedure as detailed in my Boot Camp setup guide. In Windows 10 1709, you can disable PCI Express x8 Controller - 1905 to the left TB3 port and use the right TB3 port for eGPU connection with an external monitor. With the latest Spring Update 1803, the PCI Express x16 Controller - 1901 to the dGPU needs to be disabled in order to resolve error 12.
The AORUS Gaming Engine is not working very well. If you encounter issues when launching it, try downloading older versions. One workaround is to copy the LED folder from Gigabyte Extreme Gaming Utility.
I ran these benchmarks in macOS through an external monitor. In Windows 10, AMD XConnect worked great in handling internal display acceleration and switching to the external monitor when it was connected.
|RX 580 Gaming Box||macOS External Monitor||Windows Internal Display||Windows External Monitor|
|Unigine Valley||37.7 FPS||49.6 FPS||49.9 FPS|
|Unigine Heaven||30.5 FPS||48.2 FPS||49.2 FPS|
|Tomb Raider 2013||54.0 FPS||81.5 FPS||87.8 FPS|
|Shadow of Mordor||27.9 FPS||66.5 FPS||72.9 FPS|
|Hitman||26.9 FPS||65.7 FPS||67.0 FPS|
|Dirt Rally||40.1 FPS||57.1 FPS||61.0 FPS|
Apple's eGFX team has a lot of catching up to do. While better Bootcamp support would be nice I don't think it's a priority for them at all. We'd like to see a system-wide approach to internal display acceleration rather than assigning that responsibility to software developers.
Could you provide the settings you used for benchmarking?
Pending: Add my system information and expected eGPU configuration to my signature to give context to my posts
I get +
55fps on Dirt Rally
41 fps on Heaven Min20 Max 82 , Mode 1920*1080/Quality High / Tess Normal
I'm using the same Gaming Box on the same version of Windows 10 (1803). Because of Bootcamp locking me to use THEIR drivers the system(not sure yet if it is the firmware or the OS) disabled the dGPU(on M390 on an iMAC late 2015 with no iGPU) with Error 43.AMD driver installation utility doesn't recognize my hardware, at all. So I had to use the 2015 bootcamp drivers, and they do work(not sure if it cranks the ePGU yet) but only on external output.
EDIT: Not true, there's a way to get updated MAC drivers... https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208908
