My entry into the eGPU world was a way transitioning into a more 'minimalist' style. Getting rid of my Custom PC and multiple laptops into one device. So far I have enjoyed the process and couldn't be happier with my setup.

What an excellent desk! Would you mind sharing more hidden devices? Don't get me wrong the visible devices are amazing too. 😀

Thanks itsage! I built the desk myself. It is made from a piece of 30mm joint pine, stained with a traditional spirit based proof-tint in walnut and topped with a glass finish epoxy resin. I am very happy with how it turned out.
I have used a Volans VL-HJ45-C which connects the DAC X6 and AT9934USB microphone, as well as extension cable to the front right of the desk, giving my a USB-A 3.0 port for alternative devices, such as a phone or USB Drive.
On the front left underside of the desk I have mounted the FX-AUDIO DAC X6, which decodes digital audio from the laptop and feeds both my speakers and headphones independently.

Happy to see people are still using the GTX 1070. Personally I think it has been the best value card for a really long time. It was my first eGPU I built a couple of years ago and I'm still using it despite the lack of support in macOS. Makes me a little nostalgic!

Hi thank you for sharing this built! i am planning a similar build with the same laptop (core i5, etc) but except i am planning to use a gtx 1660 ti, do you reckon this will give reasonable fps to AAA games?
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
