The Build of least resistance
Installation steps
I was hoping to keep this fairly simple when I started. I hunted around for a bit and finally found a Razer Core X being sold locally for dirt cheap. Picked it (with the factory cable) and got myself the RX 5500 XT on a friend's recommendation.
I was hoping to create a setup of the least number of changes while operating
MAC OS
- Installed the graphics card in the Razer Core X.
- Plugged into the Mac.
- Plugged HDMI cable into Razer Core X and then Monitor
- Turned on the Razer Core X
- Viola! it worked.
Connected HDMI cable directly back to the mac mini and turned off Razer Core X between this boot.
Windows 10
- Tried connecting the graphics card to my existing Bootcamp and got no response.
- Installed drivers and got the much read about Code 12.
- Deleted my boot camp and installed Windows V1903.
- Turned off windows updates.
- Connected Razer to the fresh install of Windows V1903 and no response from the computer (not detected).
- Installed Razer Synapse.
- Connected Razer core and driver less Graphics card was now visible in device manager.
- Installed Drivers for AMD card from https://www.bootcampdrivers.com/
- Didn't check for code 12. However, restarted the computer and while restarting unplugged HDMI from mac mini and connected to the razer core X.
- NOTE: only output now is from Razer Core X.
- Output achieved! AMD graphics card works on windows 10 v1903.
No connections changed going forward*
Rebooted to mac os and AMD card still works
Rebooted to windows through system properties and AMD card still works.
Comments
I set this up to play some PUBG and maybe some other games with friends cause bored from Covid.
Congrats on a super simple build! Would love to see some pics and some PUBG FPS data, it's what I play 99% of the time these days and I'd love to hear how your set up performs compared to my 2017 13inch + 580 and my SFFPC (Ryzen 3600 + 5700XT).

This is on Ultra
So the AMD software says that this GPU meets the minimum requirements to run. I might consider getting the 5700 XT if on sale for Black Friday. Will update if anything changes
@lanthrax, cheers for sharing! thats madness, really high! I know it works better with Intel but my MacBook gets about 60 on 1080 and my SFFPC 120 @1440 but average is about 80 I think.

BTW. I forgot to add, I am running Windows 10 on an external SSD (NVME 500gb) . Just FYI to everyone. My Mac mini only has 512 GB so I wanted to keep that seperate.
Hello @lanthrax ! I like to see someone has build which I want to use I have mac mini 2018 512gbssd, 64gbram, i7 and I consider to buy Razer Core X with 5500/5600/5700 XT. Can you show more games performance results with your build ?
And how did you do use windows 10 on external ssd ? I tried it in this weekend but it doesnt work 🙁 I have Samsung t7 ssd 500gb for this purpose.
Thx !
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
.i am not sure how to run benchmarks. i can share my AMD reports. like so
This is on Ultra.
For the SSD install of Windows. I have to unplug the SSD to switch back to MACOS. but I used this guide
