A MacBook Pro outperforming a "4K gaming PC"? #mindblown

I REALLY hope the incoming MacMini's have the same i7/i9 option because then they will be a super appealing proposition.

To be specific, this is a 4k gaming pc of about 2014/2015. Still surprising and amazing.

I was thinking about buying the RTX2080 but I read that (for current software) it's no better than a GTX1080Ti. Ok, GTX1080Ti is still quite expensive, but it is performing superb and it is widely supported.

I am very happy with the benchmarks for Setup Asus Station XP Pro - 2018 15" MacBookPro, even though it is pity, that the dGPU Radeon now is for nothing but trouble.

Those are my benchmarks, haven't seen any better yet and still I do not have the i9 Version of MBP 2018:

UValleyMBP2018
TimeSpyMBP2018b

If the price is same 2080 is way to go. It has more future proof with ai machine like Ray Tracing core and dlss feature. In Raw performance it’s still slightly better than 1080ti despite some games that eat a lot vram like FFXV which take advantage having 11gb vram on 1080ti, but most games take not even 3/4 from 8gb of vram on 2080.
This is timespy from 2080 TB3 eGPU with 8750 on Blade 15 that TB3 isn’t directly connected to cpu unlike MacBook laptops that slightly lower graphics performance.

@joi_kansai what are your thoughts on a 1070> 2070 Upgrade?

It’s  1080 with Raytracing and dlss feature. With 1070 egpu maybe you can’t play well on 1440p but with 1080 it’s sweet spot. Once there’s game that support dlss, you can even play on 4K since dlss renders frame on 1440p and upscale to 4K which even Pascal 1080ti couldn’t do that, Ray Tracing is nice to have since this card is entry level this feature. I’m now evga fans Mr. Green , for €520 evga black it would be a best price for the performance on Turing architecture imo.

Thanks for the reply, I get decent enough frames with my 1070 @1440 but a little bit more wouldn't go amiss... maybe the 2070 would be the sweet spot! I'm a big EVGA fan too, in fact I only buy EVGA cards... although saying that I love the look of the founders editions of the RTX series. Sadly the cards are more expensive here in the UK - £550!

This is impressive, too, but you have to consider, that the eGPU Score is about the same. For some reason yet to understand my MacBook does underperform in the CPU Parts of the Tests- What is your score with Uniginie Valley?

I have the EVGA GTX1080 Ti, but 520EUR? No way here... from where did you get it? Are you speaking about the RTX2070?

@oliverb Those are very impressive numbers! It might be one of the biggest scores I've seen at the moment.
Keep in mind it's just a benchmark, real scores like gaming FPS might be different. If you can please attach some gaming results, we might see a real difference.

I was thinking a lot about buying an 1080 Ti but those are more expensive and have huge availability issues for a while now. Buying used one is a lottery with so many Bitcoin miners. Also don't forget that 2080 still lacks some proper drivers and there are no games/apps that uses new technologies (except Shadow of Tomb Raider). I think the scores will be much better in the future.

@eightarmedpet I upgraded from 1070 because it was lacking those extra 20-30 FPS and it is the sweet spot now, as expected. But I am still not sure if it was worth spending that extra money I could use for some new games for example. Deciding between 2070, 2080 and 1080 ti will be very hard. For me 2070 was not worth upgrading, 1080 ti was not available (used ones are often from crypto mining) so the 2080 was the way to go.

As I said before, depending on what your whole build is, you can either play 60 FPS in 4K or you can play 144 FPS in 1080p/1440p.
