Hello!

This is the case I made for my Vostro 3550+GTX 960 eGPU Here.
So the parts wouldn't be scattered over the desk.

parts

The case's requirements were that it should be tough, protect all the parts of the eGPU and be compact in a good looking way.

I took some weeks in the making since starting with the 3d model to taking the acrylic to a lasercutting service and finally sanding and gluing the pieces together.
I could not make it really small after all as the PE4C's shape was a big obstacle for this. I even tried risers to bend the card by 90° but they made the Pci-e signal unstable. Both a flexible x16 EZDIY 9cm (Gen2 degradation) and a Supermicro RSC-R1U-E16R (BSODs at Gen2. Only Gen1 worked).

The case is definetly solid. I did not really know how strong the acrylic was before buying and went for 5mm thickness to be safe. I think 4mm would do the job nicely, even 3mm with a nice project. The downside is that it became pretty heavy. Lession learned for version 2.0 :p.

The power supply is an M1U form factor to make things more compact. I soldered a custom modular cable to save on space and also add a 6pin power connector.
Airflow is made by two 60mm fans in the front. I usually let them run at 5v as these small fans make a very annoying noise at full speed. Some increase in temperature but silent.

The case is composed by an internal part that holds all the components and slides into an outer shell, kinda like a custom Razer Core, kept closed by three screws. There are threaded inserts to secure the GPU bracket in place and screw holes for the PSU and PE4C.

It houses a PE4C 3.0 Expresscard
The power supply is a Seasonic SS-350M1U
Gpu is a Gigabyte GTX 960 2gb OC
Two Fractal Design R2 60mm fans

There is space for cards up to 200mm long (over 220mm if the fans are installed from the outside)

Total dimensions (H x W x D): 201 x 105 x 270mm

Edit:  A link to the Sketchup model here

I would only recommend this model for learning if you want to make a project of yours or for modification. As the internal space is small and it’s still all on heavy 5mm acrylic. 4mm/3mm suggested at least for the outer shell that makes most of the weight.
The SS-350M1U is the only PSU I made this for so other M1U models may not fit. And you will need a custom cable.
Also, 60mm fans are noisy. 80mm would be a better alternative.

The PCBs are almost identical I think so it would fit. Would need some modifications as the socketed cable can't be curved in the same way as the soldered one to exit at the back (edit: Well, maybe it can but it will be a very tight fit).
But being removable makes it much easier to just make a opening at the side to plug it after closing the case.

Can you give me the design files so I can cut one myself? Thanks in advance!

Ops, did not look for a while. Sorry for the delay.
I can send you a model, but It seems I cannot attach that kind of file here.

Here is the sketchup model:
https://www.mediafire.com/?4gsltfmatfa7aad

I made some changes from the original to remove some useless parts and clean it up.

I would only recommend this model for learning if you want to make a project of yours, or for modification to your needs.
The internal space in small and it's still all 5mm acrylic. I suggest using 4mm at least for the outer shell as this is what gets heavy.
The SS-350M1U is the only PSU I made this for and you will need to make a modified cable.
Also double check if your PE4C 2.1 will fit.

I will remember those thing, thanks alot for sharing mate. And yeah my inital plan is modify the model a bit to suit my need.

Great enclosure!!!! which app do i have to install to open this file ?

Thinking of getting this one, too!

How much did you pay for material and lasercutting ?

Would it also work with the BEAST ? (8.0) ?

It won't fit an EXP GDC unless modified. I will probably come up with some new designs that can use it later, after I finish my CNC router.

The acrylic sheets cost me 250 BRL (~US$ 80) for 1m x 50cm + 50 x 50 cm sheets, though some was wasted because of problems in my cutting files. But even with that I still have some leftover.

Cutting service was around 82 BRL (~US$ 26)
