on MBP 13", egpu works in win10 but not in macOS 10.15.7
I've studied in this site and the buyer guide for hours and then began my purchase.
Surprisingly, using boot camp in win10, it worked, although the MBP display is showing the Windows logo but my external monitor is working, gaming is apparently in higher fps with higher graphic settings.
However, when I plug it into macOS, whatever hot plug or cold plug, the macOS didn't detect it. The ADT link PCB power led illuminates, fan of ATX and RX 580 is running. Even when I unplug it, the macOS told me next time to eject it before unplug it.
In the sys info:
the PCI section shows a VGA device,
and graphic card section shows "a monitor" with egpu, but no detail info, and the iGPU - Intel Iris as well
(sorry I can't find "attach/upload image" button in this forum, anyone please tell me how can I attach my screenshot?)
And it's not working, no chip icon in the top toolbar, and my ext. monitor is just black in power saving mode.
I've googled for answer before writing the post, but there's no result. Could anyone please help?
Have you tried installing "purge wrangler"? It is a tool to set up egpus (nvidia/amd) on macos.
Follow the steps on this site: https://github.com/mayankk2308/purge-wrangler/wiki/Beginne r's-Guide
The script should be able to detect your egpu, and get it running smoothly.
@jwells_uh_huh, hi Jwells, thanks for your information, i tried that but it seems failed to download a file during the installation of it. i’ve then submitted an issue in that github project.
On the other hand, i’m thinking of giving up. i see some posts saying the macOS will lose more performance of egpu than Windows, and also for the same game, Windows version always runs better.
than the only issue is the Windows logo on the internal screen. i’ve tried the efi boot thumb drive but not working, i’ll continue to study other posts for solutions 🙂
