Razer Core X - Custom Water Cooling Loop - EK Fluid Gaming - AMD Radeon Vega 56
I upgraded the GPU in my primary rig, so I had a Vega 56 with an EK fluid gaming water block sitting around. My MacBook Pro could use a GPU so I paired the Vega with the Razer Core X. The blower cooler wasn't getting the job done, so I decided a custom water loop was the way to go. So a cheap aluminum radiator off Amazon, some fitting and an EK pump later I have a slick water cooled eGPU.
For the pump I used an EKWB EK-XTOP SPC-60 PWM
For the radiator I picked up a cheap aluminum one off Amazon for $20, a uxcell model.
The Vega 56 water block is the EK-AU Fluid Gaming model.
The loop works great, the temps sit at 59-60 degrees C under a full stress load, and the setup is virtually silent.
And yes it all fits into the housing! I had to swap the 45 degree fitting coming off the GPU (pictured) for 2 90's to make it all work. The hardest part was getting the air bubbles out of the loop, but the T fitting worked well enough.
I didn’t secure it, just rolled the dice and slid it all into the case. I don’t move the eGPU around, it just lives on my desk, so it should be ok.
I'm wondering how did you control the pump speed? Or did you just let the fan and pump run at a constant speed? Does the pump stop when MBP is sleeping?
