Great case, clean design....

You can also make it mini and with great front if you use external PSU, but this is the best Thunder2 custom case with big PSU inside 🙂

Looks awesome!! Much better than an external brick!! Have you used something as a base, or you build it from scratch?

Something I don't understand, the case that you build, are they mod of an existing commercial enclosure ? If not, where do you get the necessary electronic board, PCIe slots and TB3 card ?

Regards

MBP 2018, Touch Bar, i7 2.6 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1T SSD, Radeon 560X... very nice!

The AKiTiO Thunder3 PCBs were removed and then mounted in this custom chassis with it’s own internal PSU. This is a slimmer enclosure than what the eGPU-specific enclosures offered by AKiTiO/Sonnet/Mantiz/Asus : https://egpu.io/external-gpu-buyers-guide-2017/#tb3-enclosures

While the Thunder3 is cost effective to allow such mods, it’s TI82 firmware does not allow non-eGFX certified hosts to allow eGPU detection.  The aforementioned TI83 firmware enclosures do have firmware updates allowing eGPU detection on non-certified hosts.

Thank you for the answer.

I was believing that having some PCIe board with two slots, one with a TB3 pcie card and the correct power supply would work... Something I don't understand in fact is a need for a specific additional electronic...

With the price I will try the last Akitio Node with the TI83 chip then... I believe

And the setup shown here would be perfect for me :  https://egpu.io/akitio-node-review-the-state-of-thunderbolt-3-egpu/

I am a programmer and need to test some stuff with Cuda, does not need the most powerful and expensive card 🙂

Hey thx for ur feedback 😉

The electronic host for the gpu is from akitio. The Case is made from scratch.

I placed all components in line and start to draw some cad files.  Afterwards I milled all regarding case pars from plain aluminium slides.

For me it was important that everything fits nice on my desk.
