UPDATE: this Cubix does have a room for one more single wide GPU, for total of 3 GPUs. Once the Katana is back in stock, I will test this capability. The built-in 1200W PSU really comes in handy to ensure power hungry GPUs are sufficiently powered.

---

So the deal with the eBay listing is no one really knows what a Cubix is, so while the Buy it Now price is $1,499.00, just wait until before the auction ends and the seller will honor the $499.00 starting price (this is how I got mine) on your bid. Not a bad deal for a unit that can accommodate 4 single wide (Galax Katana 1070) or 2 double wide GPUs (yes it can power two 1080 Tis). It also has 1200W PSU and temperature controlled fan. Sorry, no SLI.

Easily convertible to an eGPU- all you need is an Aki Node or Aki T3 - there is enough clearance in the Cubix to accommodate the Node or T3 controller board. If I were Akitio, I'd jump to this opportunity before a certain Buffalo decides to steal the idea and charge in the thousands for it.

If you don't feel like modding the Cubix, the Sonnet Echo Express SEL is about half the size of the Aki T3 and will look just like the AC Adapter for the GPU chassis.

A few folks have mentioned a Node LE (dual slot) is in the works.  I think Node Pro would be a better moniker, unless they're reserving that for a reasonably priced 4GPU box.  I can't find the discussion at the moment but I'm 90% sure it was here.

You mean this guy? It looks like dual single slot. with PCIE ribbon cable it might be possible to fit two dual slot GPUs in a DIY custom or a shoebox style itx case.

I just might get into the enclosure business if no one else wants to build these guys with optional cases to fit our needs.

Akitio Node Lite Dual Slot

The Node Pro is just a larger Node with a handle, potentially for ease and portability of taking to LAN parties.

Yeah I think for this generation of eGPUs, we're just funding Intel's R&D. When the only available Thunderbolt board for sale costs more than most eGPUs, you have to wonder.

Maybe I was mistaken.  If you get into the enclosure business, let us know!!
