Mac SSD longevity
I recently bought a 2nd hand 2018 Mac mini i3 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Unfortunately the SSD failed 3-4 weeks later! My money was refunded but the experience was concerning given the soldered-in storage and T2 security chip in modern Macs.
Have any egpu.io members experienced Mac SSD failures? Have they been repaired out-of-warranty? Or by 3rd party?
FWIW, I’ve never had an SSD failure prior to the ’18 Mac mini.
That's good to hear. I've been considering purchasing another TB3 '18 Mac mini. If it were an M.2 SSD I wouldn't hesitate! But with a soldered-in SSD... As long as they weren't running Chia to mine bit coin.
BTW, here's a capture of my oldest SSD and it still works. It's an Intel 80GB X25-M SATAII in an '08 15" MBPro (dual NVIDIA GPUs). It felt weird starting up a Mac without having to login (OSX 10.6.8)
