[Solved] I just want to ask before I purchase questions
@davidmc, yes that CPU will probably throttle the GPU. I would try the other laptop
@sabrefv, I just got an idea to 3D Print an enclosure and a cable management box under the laptop to route the cable since its not the most durable and its also not common to find. I will rely on the Vega 8 now and I am sure quad core CPUs will live long. The Vega 8 can play games and the main purpose was photo editing but playin' games was a bit of a neccesity for me. Example of games I will be playing is of course, minecraft and some retro emulating like N64 or even GameCube if possible. Would like to play CSGO so nothing to overkill no need for max graphics. Thank you so much for your help. egpu.io is really a kind forum.
Edit: I just wanted to ask also what would be an example of a great inexpensive m.2 PCIE 3.0 EGPU?
I have an HP Probook 430 G3 and I want to upgrade the graphics of it. My laptop doesn't have Thunderbolt 3 so I guess I'm going to have to rely on my WIFI Card slot. Is it possible? If so, can you guys give me tips and guides? What GPU should I buy? Heck, what should I buy? I don't have any idea what to do. I just want to improve my laptop so that I could play games. And I don't really have the money to buy a whole new desktop, so I'm going to make do with what I've got.
Being a newbie with egpus I landed to this very helpful site after several recommendations.
After searching for my model and relative setups I couldn't determine if my laptop is cable of receiving a m.2 - egpu setup. So your help would be highly appreciated.
My current setup:
HP Elitebook 840 g3 with a i5-6200U cpu and a m.2 slot
- As there is both sata and a m.2 slot, I can use the m.2 slot for the egpu use.
- Checking this guide https://egpu.io/best-egpu-buyers-guide/#m2-interface and if i am not terribly wrong, I should go for an x4 m.2 adapter as my cpu is 6th generation.
1)Is there anything else I should check before I proceed with a purchase of an m.2 adapter?
2)Is there any recommendation for my setup between the adt-link and the beast?
3)The laptop is currently connected on its own docking station that drives the signal to a dual monitor setup(via 2 hdmi ports). Is there any chance to use the same setup with the egpu (if finally i can use one) or the egpu setups cannot drive the signal back to the motherboard and via the mb to the docking station?
Please forgive me if the questions have been answered before, but I couldn't find my answers at first glance.
My laptop's specs page:
Thank you in advance guys for your time and keep the good job!!!
I own an Asus G531 GT with onboard GTX 1050. I recently purchased the 2070 super and would like to use an egpu dock.
Can anyone please recommend which dock I should buy because the laptop does not have Thunderbolt 3 connectivity.

Hi guys. Last night I opened my laptop to identify where is my Wifi card, and I was able to find it.
Could I plug my eGPU in that slot? It would be very convenient as I wouldn't need to take out the wifi card.
With a quick search I was able to find out that sadly, no one has attempted to build a setup with your specific model.
But I was able to find 2 builds that should be somewhat similar to what you are looking for.
I hope this information helps you
@daniel_brix, Before deciding on a GPU you should try and post your specs in here. Apparently, your laptop has quite some different models, and they all have different CPUs
