I have upgraded my beast eGPU from a 660ti to a 1060 6gb, and there has been a marked improvement.

My question is this:

If I keep upgrading every year when the next Nvidia GTX/RTX **60 comes out. Will I continue to see an improvement, or will I eventually hit a bottleneck wall due to the bandwidth of the mPCIe x1 2.0?

I suppose to put it in a simpler way, is there a limit as to how much performance the mPCIe port can compute? Or does the performance ultimately depend on the efficiency of the card (with a 30% reduction due to the port limitation)

You pretty much arrived at the limit.
On EC, external screen, good quad core CPU, moving from GTX 1060 to 1070 fps went from 50 to 55.
On TB3 system results were 54 fps vs 75 fps. Just to show what difference more bandwidth makes.

Game tested was Division on High settings.

T430 i7 + EXP GDC 1060

I haven't posted my build here, using Lenovo T430 with expresscard. What's your system?
